I'm not sure but I think he has a great chance because of the type of coach RA is. He has to learn how to put the ball on the floor if that never happens he may just keep being a 7-10 point scorer. I think he has the talent to do it he just needs to put it all together without Tracy in the line up for a while he will get more touches so that will help him out.

he has a long way to go,

he is a great off-the-ball defender, no so good on-the-ball.

Based on what I've seen from Ariza this pre-season, he doesn't have enough skills to create any shots for himself and when he tries to, he throws up a highly-contested shot or turns the ball over. In order for him to double his average, he'd have to average about 14 ppg. I think even last year's playoff average of 11.2 ppg may be difficult for him to match especially since he won't be left wide open like he was when he played with Kobe, Pau and Odom.

    He looks uncoordinated on offense.

I think he needs to simplify his game a lot more. I think when he heard he needs to be an option, he felt that he needed to be Kobe/Tmac like, which most players can't be in the NBA.

He'll never be that type of player, that I can almost garuntee. But he can be a very productive 2 way player, such as Scottie Pippen.

take a look at this video of game footage of Scottie Pippen in the 95 season.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v4xgH6aYkc

If you notice, he's very productive, but he is in no way similar to Kobe/Tmac. He doesn't rely on crossovers or many pick n' rolls. He simply moves north and south on the court for the most part when he's handling the ball.

He uses very few dribbles to get to where he wants, and the biggest difference between Ariza and Pippen is strength and finishing ability at the basket. Another improvement Ariza needs to make is his footwork, thus why he looks uncoordinated.

Pippen also used very basic post moves such as a 5 ft hook or a 5-10 ft turn around jumper off the glass to get easy points. He was never fancy in the half court and didn't take many difficult shots.

Pippens drop step and spin move is much more stronger and decisive as well than Ariza right now. Without the strength, people are just throwing Ariza around and he can't finish.

Pippen also didn't shoot jumpers off the dribble very often outside of fast breaks. In the half court, he would usually take them within the offense. He

Right now, Ariza is trying to shoot pull up jumpers, settling for contested 3's, and is simply too weak to drive it in with through traffic in the NBA. When defenses focus on you, you have to be able to take the bumps that come with driving to the hole.

People knock on Tmac calling him soft, but when he's healthy, he is able to drive and get to the basket in traffic and can finish as well. He couldn't do that when he first came in...he had to build that strength. Took him about 3-4 years from age 18.

Considering Ariza is now 24 and still ddoesn't have that strenght is very shocking to me, especially since he's been in the league since he was 19. He'll need it on defense too...athleticism will only get you so far.

But I feel once he develops some strength in his body, he will be able to finish some of these moves a little better. He should stop trying the contested pull up shots, because those are the shots that very elite players hit, not role players or even good players.

He has proven that he can hit a wide open 3, so that should come back to him once he's comfortable...hopefully.

But once he learns to simplify his game and gets some strenght, I think he can be a 14-18 ppg type of player by next season or the season after, if he's called upon to do so.

This year, he'll have a huge learning curve...hopefully that doesn't get his confidence down. Instead of trying to be Kobe or Tmac, he should try to be more like Tayshaun Prince.

He's trrying too hard. He's eager to prove himself and thinking too much is backfiring on him. There have been great reports from practices and training camp about his shot looking good but so far during games, he's been pressing. When he's driving to the basket, he's usually forcing himself in there with no place to go without scanning the defense and seeing whats available. I suspect he'll get it together once the season begins and average around 14-15pts/game.
