"I was quite pleased to be back in the public discourse, having missed mah proper profile acutely these 150 years. And may I add a rousing 'huzzah' to the woman who would stand up for the finest of our nineteenth century principles!"
Demographics? IMHO Know it all's pretty much. You have your JVG vs Aldeman's Your Yao's vs TMac And your Morey is god and Les is an idiot crowd, your Stevie lovers and Rafer haters; there are some liberals and conservatives who are red rowdies, but by and large, mostly democrats, independents, a few staunch republicans and me- a confused voter. (I do think we all hate the Jazz and the Mavs though )
She would have "won" if she was able to stand and talk at the same time based on all the crap she took since her RNC speech. Since she actually put up a good fight, she definitely won politically. This is the same crap that got Bush off from his screwups in debates. Media makes him out to be a talking monkey and he does better than even a monkey that can do sign language and "wins".
The beautiful irony was at the end when she tried to play the "I'm an average person just like everyone" card, and walked right into his trap. His name is freaking Joe, and there probably isn't a single member of the senate that is more of a Joe Sixpack than he is. I only wish Joe had let loose earlier in the debate rather than wait until the end when he couldn't take any more of her "mav'rick" lines -- he could've delivered a few knockout punches.
Biden won. No doubts about it. Moral victory for Palin though. Kind of like the Chinese National BBall team "only" losing by 30 to the U.S. I would have to say this helped the GOP more. That's not saying too much though. Anything above "trainwreck" would have helped.
Biden did what was expected. Palin more than held her own in an elliptical kind of way. They spend so much time correcting the other side's assertions-- wish they would not allow that. Maybe they shouldn't allow them to talk about the other side... period. That would be a fun rule to enforce. I think Palin proved herself to be more than capable. Given some more time, she'll be fine. She's gritty; she's combative. She's smarter than most give her credit for. She's only a few years behind Obama or Biden in the Big Pond: "It's nice to meet you Senator Biden. Is it okay if I call you Joe?"
I'm a pretty neutral observer, but from the portions of the debate I watched it looked like Biden would talk in specifics and Palin would talk in broad generalities. I think b/c of this Biden won. After a while it got boring, and I resumed my workout in the gym.
Biden won based on facts and delivery. Palin won by not screwing up. Bottom line is....the VP is one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Personally, I would be much more comfortable with Biden in that position than I would Palin.
I really think the only way you could pick a winner last night is if you agree with their positions. I watched it as a neutral observer last night and felt like neither one won. It was an entertaining debate, I came away from it thinking I like both of them as people. Neither one messed anything up and neither blew up on anything.
I thought Biden won and was very smart in not attacking Palin. The media will do that for the Dems because the Repubs keep hidding her and not allowing her to answer questions. So.....Palin did OK......and Biden was great. Biden won, but by decision and not a knockout. DD
I think Biden won, but I think the majority of the public will think Palin won, so I voted Palin. And pundits will think it was close enough, that Palin was the winner. I hope I'm wrong. 1) She had extremely low exceptions. 2) Didn't get called out for not answering questions 3) Came w/ soundbites that American people are dumb enough to hear the next day and love. I wish she'd been called out over and over again by the moderator for her rambling responses. I'm honestly not even sure what the moderator was there for, since the questions obviously didn't matter. Biden did a fair job responding to her random answers and the original questions, but it was much more difficult attempting to follow where the hell Palin was going than just reciting mini stump speeches. For me, Biden actually surpassed my expectations. I watched the clips of Palin's debates in Alaska; I thought she was better in the Alaskan debates.
I voted neither. Neither candidate was very convincing or made a push that sent the other ballot flying higher or sinking lower.
I thought Biden was "ok", no gaffes,...no stand up chucks, or 7-11 fumbles...Palin was Palin. She was GREAT!..unfiltered, no edits, right in the peoples' face where I like her with her eyes making near hypnotic contact and her legendary smile...She handled the issues very well of energy, Iraq, and critiquing as well....She attacked and went for the throat on why Obama disparaged the troops when he stated the troops raped and pilfered Iraq...She stated how naive and dangerous as rightly so... She stated applaud to Biden for his past disagreements with Obama, and this was genuine, as her stating his late wife had a special place in heaven...That was genuine...She is real, she is real change...One of us, with our problems, with friends she has on opposite sides of the political fence...She is willing to show togetherness, and toleration....(unlike the back slappers)... The sky is the limit for Sarah Palin. I'm in love. Some of you leftys might say...Say it ain't so ROXRAN, you always seemed like a moderate Republican that we enjoy and want to have a steak dinner with in person and ever since Sarah you seem "far-right" now and to that absolutely not because I see a leader who is one of us...She is willing to embrace change of a better energy "all of the above" approach...She likely is more willing to side with Obama regarding Pakistan deep down,...and she embraces others in government regardless of party to work for the people...(as she has shown in Alaska) That is what I love about her...She had me at "Can I call you Joe?" in this debate and it went absolutely uphill from there...There is no doubt "debates" is her game, and unlike Joe, she seemed to be reaching out to the viewers at home... To quote Tom Brokaw near the end of his show: "I think the democrats are glad there is only one vice-presidential debate" ...
Pardon the basketball analogy, but isn't it a bit like making Aaron Brooks the starter from Day One, watching him struggle and then waiving him by December 1? Even by keeping him on the roster (like a V.P.), we are forced to play him if something happens to the starter. He learns by watching and practicing and gets prepared to assume a larger role in due course.
I am glad Palin resonates with you Roxran.....but if you think that is how the majority of American's feel about her, then you are going to be dissappointed. Speaking for myself, I find her highly unqualified, and incapable of answering a question with any substance. But, she sure is folksy.......[sarcasm]just what I want in the global game of power....someone who can skin a moose....YIPPEEE !!![/sarcasm] DD
