After tonight's game I'd have to say the exact opposite. We had a 7 point lead until JVG rested James, then we lost it. I vote for James.
When Sura comes back this week will he start? Or will Mike James? I like his game...but prefer the "Iron Man."
Here are the facts.......you decide for yourself Bob was the starter before his injury and playing very well. Bob was KEY reason why we went on our 8 game winning streak Bob in the lineup 25 Wins - 11 Losses Bob out of the lineup 7 Wins - 14 Losses If a player is playing well a coach should never take away a guys starting job just because he got injured But I have no problem in playing Bob and Mike at the same time and now we have a very solid four guard rotation in Bob, Mike, David and John
It's probably been said through the thread, but i'll pour more gravy on top. Sura is a more all-around player and a better general on the court, and has slightly better chemistry with the other players than james. James, however, has more stamina, is faster, is healthy and has a slightly better offensive game and a better shot. I'd like to see James handle most of the 2nd and early 3rd so Sura has enough in the tank for the fourth. Therefore, Sura starts, James as our sparkplug and he comes out whenever Deke is subbing Yao to replace offense. Sura, wes, tmac yao is a great combo. James, barry, tmac, deke is also pretty deadly. Pretty awesome backcourt to have, IMO making us one of the deeper backcourts in the league and also the best center tandem. Jho is doing better than expected for his spot, but we need a better rebounder who can box out his man and get a few blocks for next year (I hope that man is Badiane).
i don't understand why this is a close call at all. bob sura is CLEARLY the starting pg of this team. even if james was averaging 40 points these last 3 games. reason #1 is that he's probably the best rebounder on the team which also happens to be reason #1 that we've lost 4 of the last 5 with him out. i love mike james as much as the next rockets fan but just cause he's fresh in my mind and has been playing extremely well doesn't mean i'm just giving away the starting spot of a guy who has been the heart and soul of this team all year. if you look at the situation james is the PERFECT 6th man. he's high energy, instant offense, and he's used to coming off the bench. what we have now is a guy who can come in and give sura a breather and still have the same quality of play. the last time bob played we had an eight game winning streak and people want to break that up?
It's deja vu all over again! Hey and maybe in a few more days we can really mess our rotation up by trading Mooch for SF3!!! Awwww! The trade deadline is past!!! I still think we need to try Juwan at the 2 and move Sura to the 4. Or Deke at the 5 and Yao at the 4!!!
There is no doubt in my mind that the moment Sura is ready, HE starts. Wesley is a good starter, and I am surprised more folks don't comment on just how important instant offense is in this league for those nights when the starters aren't getting the job done. MJ is a great answer to that, and I betcha JVG thinks that is an over-riding part of the equation. Don't u ?
Great question. I think Mike James should start, long term wise It ink it would help the Rockets more. Sura should move to the bench where I always thought he should be playing from. Having said that, I think there will be a lot of nights where Sura plays more minutes than James.
Its close but I say Sura starts. We suck at rebounding, and that is Sura's forte. Thats the main argument right there. Sure James is a better scorer, but we got T-Mac and Yao (if he isn't in foul trouble). How about play Sura when Yao is in the lineup and James when Deke is in? James will make up for Deke's offense, and Sura will make up for Yao's rebounding. Both of them aren't true point guards but I think Sura might be a bit more of one than James. Also, MJ has to stop fouling people when they shoot 3's.
1 James/Sura/Mooch 2 Wesley/Barry/James 3 TMac/Sura/Bowen 4 JHo/Padgett/Spoon 5 Yao/Deke Sura becomes super sub, still getting the minutes he got before, but splitting time at the 1 and 3 spots.
