Interesting. What if you pull a Bo Porter and send your pitcher over to 2B for a few baters and then have your 2B throw some pitches? I don't get to watch any of these games anymore, but was that what caused the Astros to lose the DH in that game?
Time Warner customer? I didn't watch much the past 3 or so years, but Porter doing something mindboggling wouldn't surprise me in the least.
He had put two pitchers in at the same time @ Arizona I think. One on the mound the other in LF and switched them out between batters. Then he tried it again a few days later in an AL game and lost DH as a result.
Isn't pitching part of the game? Why don't hitters have to pitch? If Red Sox and Yankees fans can embrace the DH, the historically naive Astros fans can as well.
Because only one person can pitch at a time, but meanwhile the other 8 are out there fielding the ball so the pitcher can actually get people out.
I will say, that with our window seemingly having been opened this season, I'm not complaining that it will be open while in our dogsh!t division rather than still being in the NL Central and having to deal with the current version of the Cubs and Cards.
So if hitters don't have to pitch, why do pitchers have to hit? It's not their position either. The pitcher is also fielding.
No prob. I love interleague play so much, in fact, I wish the Stros played about 140 interleague games every year.
For the same reason that pitchers don't catch or play right field. It's their position in the field. Should catchers not run the bases because they suck at it? How about a catcher hits and then some guy off the bench runs to first for him? Sounds legit. AL fans have had 40 damn years to "embrace the DH". Historically naive my ass.
I don't like the move to the AL because I like my old rivalries but I do find myself enjoying the DH. I'm all in on that part now. I still contend that NL baseball is more interesting as a whole but nothing is more interesting then Astros baseball and I'm happy to watch them anywhere.
The NL Central was created in 1994. It's not like those NL Central Rivalries had been around long. I hate Dallas sports teams so much. i enjoy being in the same division as the Rangers.
I voted fake baseball but really the worst part of the move is the AL West part, seems games are always 9:30pm start. That's where Bud really got over on us.
Why don't they rotate positions? Why not make everybody catch, make everybody pitch, just like we want to make everybody hit? Nowadays, watching the pitcher hit is like watching the hack-a strategy in basketball (except this time an entire league has a player who sucks at free throws). It's a part of the game that has been long overdue to be eradicated (and would have happened a long time ago, had one NL owner not gone on a fishing trip on the day of the vote).
