The NFL Draft gets my nod because it's a little more interesting to folks where Joe Player from BallScratch State will play pro ball. The NBA Draft has become dull in comparison. Finding out where Zicoluouplus Throckmortonious, a seven-foot Euro-stiff with "great upside" and an "NBA body" is going has no relevance for me. For every Euro-stud (Dirk Diggler, Pau Gasol, AK-47, Peja), you have tons of Euro-wimps (Tshkivili, that awful giant Frenchman who VC posterized in the Olympics a few years back and countless others) who have done absolutely nothing in the draft. But I will admit the thrill of drafting Yao (not so much watching him play) was pretty cool.
I'm surprised the split b/w NFL and NBA is so close. Like I said, I was expecting it to be heavily skewed to NBA since we're on a Rockets board, but... I think it's because college football has such a loyal fanbase, we want to see our players succeed...
i'm surprised the nfl draft isn't winning actually. i picked nba. people say they don't know the nba draftees but that's how i feel with the nfl draft. i mean unless they won one of the major awards or are going in the top half of the first round, i don't know most of the defensive players, even if they came from powerhouse programs. i don't know the DT's or cornerbacks at miami or florida state or anything. granted you might have some recognizable names more rounds into the nfl draft but that's because there are so many more players on a team. as a percentage of guys drafted i know significantly more NBA draft picks than nfl. like that guy the Texans traded for last year, babin or something, i had never heard of him and we traded something like our next 4 picks for him. now for this year, i will probably end up having spent more time on the nfl draft b/c of Vince and where he would go on top of the Texans having the #1 pick, but that could change if the rockets get a top 3 pick. in a normal year, i pay passing attention to the pre-nfl draft hoopla and might watch a few first round picks. i pretty much always watch every pick of the nba draft and know a decent amount about everyone projected in the first round. there generally seem to be more trades in the nba draft (it seemed like nothing happened in the nfl draft this year) and it goes by so much quicker and you get to hear the word "upside" a million times so there are some more advantages.
