It doesn't make a lot of business sense to invest 4 million dollars in a guy who doesn't want to play. He now has no trade value. None. Zero. Nothing.
Houston has always been known for taking care of its players in a very humane way. Extending him while ackowleging his personnal problems will give a very strong message to future free agents , hereby reducing our future payroll as FA would be willing to take less to come to Houston... This way, EG could still be usefull to us as a marketing tool, not a complete waste. And off course, if things setle down, EG would really be comitted to us.
A mesage that you can not perform on the court, not show up for practice or games and quit on the team, and re-enact menace 2 society in your spare time and still get your contract extended? God, I hope not. Not on Jeff Van Gundy's watch. I don't even think Rudy would tolerate this.
As usual, I'm in the minority again. I say extend his contract. These troubles seem like things he can grow out of... if he doesn't have too much legal trouble which could negate the opportunity to grow out of the immature mind. As usual, I'm for doing the humane thing and for doing the pragmatic thing. If they can stick him on IR (to get counseling) or leave him on suspension (to save money while he gets counseling)... Great! The kid needs the pressure taken off of him and some time to mature. Is the Rox management blind??
It's sarcasm...you needed to be here on Day 1 of the Shandon Ahaven't been around long enough to appreciate it.
It's sarcasm...and since you weren't around CC the day the Anderson for Rice trade was announced, it probably eludes you.
Eddie's trade value has already been established by the events of this preseason. The marginal impact of not extending his contract is minimal, IMO. It makes little sense to promise to pay him another year when he may not be in a position to play in another year. I think the Rockets can be supportive of Eddie, but I don't think it really helps anything to extend his contract at this point.
