Both are great, but it depends on timing. Normally if given the choice I would take sushi all day. Half a bottle of bourbon in me? MOAR FISH AND CHIPS!!!!!
I'll get things started. This is a tough choice for me as really like both. Also it's one of those where if you get bad stuff it can be really bad. I'm leaning towards sushi.
This is clearly BOTH. You eat sushi, get hungry 30 mins to an hour later and then fill up on fish and chips. This is the only answer that is acceptable.
If I am only thinking about the act of eating, then it's fish and chips. However, nowadays, that much bad fried food makes me feel like **** afterwards and would probably be accompanied by some digestive issues. So when I take everything into account, it's sushi. As for this poll - I abstain, courteously.
My favorite fishy at the moment is the grilled fish torta from El Ray. I could eat that thing every day. So none of the above.
Good fried catfish is really good, but sushi is on another level for me, one of my serious weaknesses. Can't get out of a sushi joint for less than $50, or I'd eat it 4-5 times a week.
I think I've only had sushi once or twice and it wasn't axactly mindblowing. I'm a simple guy -- fried fish, whether I fry it up with a ton of spices or drive to Oklahoma or Arkansas for fried catfish is some of my favorite food. I used to drive about 90 minutes to Oklahoma almost every weekend to get the hell away from the city and get some pretty good catfish. I've driven 4 hours to Arkansas for the same reason. One day, I need to try catfish out in Mississippi. I also love blackened catfish.
Don't have the palate for raw fish. All tastes the same to me. I eat the cooked stuff (eel or tempura). I voted for fish and chips. Fried food is always tasty.
It's interesting that on Clutchfans sushi would be beating fish and chips and Bahn Mi would beat Tortas.
One thing that's interesting is the costs differences. Sushi is still pricey but it's a lot cheaper and more available than it was 10 years ago. Can even get it in grocery stores. Fish and chips seems to be getting more expensive it seems like to get a decent order runs about $12 up.
Poll results don't surprise me. One of the things I love about Houston is the vast variety of cultures. The best fish and chips I have had was in a Place in Newport Oregon and Seattle Washington. Its not something I see in Austin other than in some Irish themed make over of Hooters. I think they are mostly gone at this point, I prefer Sushi all the way 15 piece Sashimi with a roll any day of the week, unfortunately since my Lottery skills are noob at best, its a once or twice a week thing. My daughter is into California rolls now, so I think she will be into the goodness soon. My son just wants the largest portion of Teriyaki Chicken he can get with fried rice.
you know it is a fake poll when SF, arguably the 2nd or 3rd most diverse city in the US, is not included. only a half-azzed poll would have Gaithersburg, MD, Dallas, TX , Silver Spring, MD above LA
there are alot more dishes under sushi so it wins no doubt if the choice was raw fish vs cooked fish then the results will be different for sure
Sushi easily. Extra wasabi and soy please. An important factor to me is how healthy sushi is, especially in comparison to fried food.
