I agree completely. People are just typically less interested in, say, Bolivia's international policy than our own. But I do see what you mean.
this thread is the ultimate example of that. some of the very people who rush to criticize the US are here defending Germany on this. if this were a US poll, someone would be posting it and saying, "man..americans are idiots!"
What does the University of Kentucky have to do with anything? Btw- Your quite brave to openly criticize such pillar of academia B-Bob.
OK Max. You're right. Germans are stupid. But that was pretty clear to anyone who watched Hogan's Heros, so it's really not breaking news.
Okay, I admit it. I'm an antiwildcat-ite. ... I'm not proud, and I'm trying to get over it. It's just... It's just that my parents, everybody in my home town, you know, they were just always making wildcat jokes and running down UK, so I started doing it to...
It's still nonsense . There was a verdict once of some lower court where some guy came home every night in a house with many parties and took a shower at 3 a.m. or so, making tons of noise. Apparently they had really thin walls, so some neighbor thought he needed to sue (which, of course, is very strange, but Germany is still far less litigious than the USA). Whatever the judge was thinking, he thought the guy who filed the suit was right and told the other guy not to take showers in a noisy way every night. That was the whole story. This case does not establish any legal precedent whatsoever either. THERE IS NO LAW IN GERMANY THAT PEOPLE CANNOT TAKE SHOWERS AFTER 11 P.M. THERE IS ALSO NO TAX ON CLOSETS!!!!!!
but what about that obscure german ruling that says you're entitled to a man's unused airline tickets if he tries to kill you while you're wearing his suit?
Well you have to admit that American, and all western, newscoverage has been VERY onesided and narrowminded about 911 and Iraq. Most of the american media have been spewing out pure propaganda a lot of the time. I guess that´s understandable for a nation at war. It still disturbes me greatly though, since we´re talking about the most powerful nation in the world. A nation that says it has the right to attack anyone that it feels threatened by. Should not Iraq then have had the right to attack the US when they said that they where gonna attack Iraq????? The US is bringing the same mindset that has been the very core of the country to it´s foreign politics. If you´re strong enough you can do whatever you want.
Again, my wife lived in Amberg, Schweinfurt and one other town in Germany. Uncle and friend lived in completely separate towns. They said closets were considered rooms and they were taxed based on the amount of rooms in their dwelling. They said that where they lived, there were ordinances that disallowed showers, vacumming, etc. past 10 PM and forbid all of those, except for showering on Sundays. This is not a rumor from some court ruling. My wife and her ex husband were tickted/cited many times. All three said the same thing. Again, maybe its just a city ordinance. So unless you lived in EVERY town in Germany SJC, then I will take three people's word for it over yours as they certainly have no reason to lie about it. The fact that you are disputing what three people are saying just because you are German or live there means the nonsense is coming from you. That would be like me proclaiming what laws do and do not exist in Astoria Oregon..
Sigh. I'll believe three people who have no reason to lie and have physical proof of the truth (citations/tickets).
Stop rolling your eyes at me...or... Btw, there is also a tax on rolleyes and Seinfeld quotes in Germany. But maybe it is just a city ordinance, so I am not sure .
I've heard from 3 people who have seen Germany on T.V. that Adidas and BMW get the leather they use from kittens!
This one had me scratching my head. 1 in 5 is a lot of people. It's worth mentioning that Muslims make up one of Germany's largest minority populations so that may explain some of it. Since the idea of ANY American sacrficing millions of dollars in real estate and 3000 American lives for ANY reason much less political or economical is preposterous to me, I'm going to have to go with a more likely explanation for the German poll. That America is on top right now and everyone is jealous of #1 and would like to see #1 fall. As juvenile as that sounds, that seems to be the only explanation to me and in my travels if there's one thing I've learned, the ENTIRE world is jealous of America.
