You can make a logical case all day long. It's going to fall on deaf ears for the most part. There is this misguided notion around here that if you're not constantly ranting and raving on the sidelines or calling out players all the time, you must not be 'coaching'. Winning games, overcoming adversity, exceeding expectations, etc. don't seem to matter as much. Not many seem to understand what makes a successful NBA coach.
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Ummmm our PG rotation isn't that strong. Aaron Brooks isn't a quality starter. Shane Battier could easily be replaced as a starter if you had someone better.
As I mentioned before, I think coaching Lebron James has to be close to the easiest job in the history of the NBA. The only person I would say may be more deserving than Rick is Nate McMillan. No experience. Young guys. Had to figure out a rotation. Injuries to their 'savior' Greg Oden. He is getting incredible production out of those young'uns. They have hung in there with the much much much more experienced and in some cases more talented teams in the western conference. The one detractor from Nate's case is that Brandon Roy is by far the most underrated player in the NBA. He is a superstar. At times when they play us, you cant tell because we create HUGE problems for them, but Brandon Roy will be one of the elite players in this league for the next decade. I bet Portland is hoping they don't play us about as much as we hope we dont play the Jazzercisers. Remember those questions on the SAT? The Rockets are to the Blazers as the Jazz are to the Rockets. Man that tests was dumb.
More with less? More with more is what it's more like it. He gets Mo Williams and they get back Joe Smith. No way that is less than last season. Injuries to West, Big Ben, and Gibson? Ha. Just watch them if they have LeBron injured or even Mo Williams injured. I thought Jerry Sloan did a pretty good job with Boozer and Williams out in the beginning of the season. But, he hasn't solved the horrible road game problems. Nate did a serviceable job, but it was about time for that team to make the playoffs. If Spurs get 2nd or win division title, then I think Pop should win it. Tony Parker was to a great start (scoring over 50 in one game), then got injured. Manu and his ankles kept him out for most of the season. All this while Duncan is getting older.
If you ever watch them play when lebron struggles, they look bad. Mo williams can shoot, but other than that they rely on James for their entire offense. Mike Brown might have a less imaginative offense than JVG.
Well said. I am baffled by how many of Rick's successes are dismissed, considering that most of his 'failures' invented by ClutchFans are purely fabrication.
JVG's brother will get the coach of the year, Rick's name will be mentioned, but he is not even close in the race even although he is doing great job for our team.
