Poll: lefties come clean for 2004

Discussion in 'BBS Hangout: Debate & Discussion' started by B-Bob, Oct 6, 2003.

?

What would you choose for the next 14 months?

  1. Economy rebounds dramatically, Iraq stabilizes, we bring soldiers home, and Bush wins in 2004.

    32 vote(s)
    54.2%
  2. Economy gets even worse, Iraq remains dangerous, more soldiers die, and Bush loses in 2004.

    12 vote(s)
    20.3%
  3. Given a supreme choice, we remove B-Bob from all computer access!

    15 vote(s)
    25.4%

I voted # 1, though obviously I'd prefer it without the Bush part, but with only those 3 choices, #1 definately.

I don't know if I qualify as a lefty for this thread. I don't exactly think that a democrat would be a better person to have in office. But, like VOR, I do rather wonder which is worse (except I do it with fewer typos :p ). Should I tolerate a man who leans toward tyranny (imo) to avoid short-term disasters? If it were just the economy, then yes I would make the trade. But, I very much do not want our mission in Iraq to fail, now that we've started. So, I'm on the fence, actually.

How do the results look? In honoring your request, I'm not voting but that means I can't see the results...

Or I could make a disingenuous choice of the last option to ban B-Bob....

I, too, see the otions as too limited.

On the one hand I obviously want the economy to rebound, and to see as few casualties in Iraq as possible.

On the other hand, a Bush reelection means more of this in the future.

If Bush does what he has done and is reelected there are three significant omens for the future: One, it gives him a mandate to keep doing what he's done in the next term, and this time without having to worry about negative backlash. Two, it serves as a notice to the rest of the world that we as a nation are just fine and dandy with what we've done...and Three, it serves as a precedent for future leaders: do whatever you want, just win the war, and we'll rubber stamp you. In fact, if you want to be re-elected, pick an easily winnable war, and go to work, and you'll not be held accountable to the electorate, even if you misled them. America loves a winner, baby!

Please, this is the same as asking us when was the last time we beat our spouses. Let's put up a poll for conservatives:
Would you rather see Bush win, soldiers die, Bush lose, soldiers live? Come clean you American hating conservatives...

See the underlined blue words right next to the vote button that say "view results"? Click that.

I refuse to play B-Bobs twisted game to the extent that I even reject option 3.

So, like Twisted Sister, you're not going to take it? (the poll).
Speaking of, Dee Snyder kicked off an Arnold rally this weekend in
    Excremento -- I mean Sacramento.

    Exactly.

I'm surprised you bought into all this, even enough to create this poll, B-Bob. Just more from the indisputed spin master, Rove, regurgitated often enough by the right that it actually makes it into conventional 'wisdom.'

So, if you disagree with Bush (and his radical policies) you want to see America fail. Right. Our choices (according to the right and now according to this poll) are see America succeed and have another Bush term or see America fail and have a Democrat. That's crap. This is just a retread of that stupid notion that dissent is unpatriotic. Here's a surprise. I want America to succeed and that's exactly why I want Bush to lose in 2004. Also, I believe he's a stupid, dangerous, spoiled brat. That's why I want to see him lose badly. But none of that translates to me wanting American soldiers to die, no matter what Karl Rove, treeman or Trader_Spanish Speaker would have you believe.

Don't believe the (obvious, simple-minded, jingoistic, lowest common denominator) hype, Bob. You're better than that.

(*sigh*) I'll quote the worthwhile part of your post, BJ. Yes, I am better than the picture of a drooling moron you paint. Yea, me!

Anyway, I intentionally (and didn't I say this?) post a very limited poll because I'm interested in the answers. Clearly, (I thought this was clear), most who have voted in this poll could rally around the following option:
    * economy rallies, employment rises,
    * no more soldiers die in Iraq,
    * we rebuild a few alliances,
    * Bush loses in 2004 because ... (choose your favorite
reasons. my favorites: pushing an unnecessary war,
misleading America, and thereby building more infrastructure
overseas than at home; pushing a tax cut that amounts to
peanuts for peasants and bundles for billionaires; ruining
our international reputation; exploiting the tragedy of 9-11
for neoconservative political gain; et alia)

Uh, yeah. Pretty much everyone (of left persuasion) would vote for that. It's called a pep rally and it isn't interesting. Or maybe you can post a poll with the option "I want everything to go to hell and for Bush to lose too so that his legacy will suck eggs! HA!" and then maybe one person will select that and we can laugh knowingly. Yes, that would be a good ol' time. So start a new poll, and I promise to vote.

I was interested in something else. Exactly to what depth do we fear the possibility of a 2nd term? Would we be willing to bet Bush will continue his neocon campaign of Pax Americana? If so, then losses in the next year would be a relatively small price to pay, right? Apparently, a good number of people feel that strongly about it. I'm not sure what I'd do.

It's completely cool to rag on the poll and call me an idiot (again, option #3 beckons and has many takers). Or call me an idiot for airing laundry where "tell-me-what-to-think-please-Mr-Limbaugh" zombies can see our answers and make a few more wafer-thin cliche comments about the left. (Oh, the horrah! the horrah!). But don't call me an idiot that has bought into the Rove spin. Them's fightin' words, ya bastid! :)

Agreed. That's why I was forced to vote for the third option in the poll. :D

I hope you know I don't think any of those awful things of you, B-Bob. And you do raise an interesting question. To be true, though I didn't vote, I'd vote for things getting worse short term if we were truly limited to these choices. I know less people will die and more people would have work in the long (and even in the relatively short) run if Bush loses. I have less than no doubt about that. The unfortunate thing about your poll, especially in reaction to the other threads today, is that certain simple folk have been pushing the notion of these two choices for a while now. It is an insidious argument, used to deflect any (blessedly deserved) criticism of this terrible president, and I just hate to see these choices (which are decidedly NOT our choices) echoed anywhere.

How about a fourth choice for the poll?

I don't care how many US soldiers are killed, how much Dubya lied to get us into war, how much we go into debt, whether we pollute the environment or hurt the poor and middle class, as long as Dubya gets reelected because I am a loyal Republican.

Or even a 5th choice for the poll if we're being ignorant.

I don't care how many unborn children have to die, how many taxes have to be raised to protect trees (that studies show, grow back), how many terrorist attacks have to happen to us, how much nobody cares about the family, or religion, or now matter how much we have to turn into a social state, I will vote against Dubya with hate, because I am a Democrat.

    Stereotypes are fun.
