Interesting in that the Democrats are more scared of Kinky than they are supportive of Chris Bell. Why else do they take lines from his stage show out of context to "prove" he is a racist. Politics as usual.
RMT, I saw Kinky and the Texas Jewboys long before the '80's, and as the name of his band shows, he has always poked fun at conventions. But even I was surprised at the extent of this particular performance, at least what I've seen quoted. I wouldn't call it "politics as usual," necessarily, but the sort of thing Kinky should have been prepared for. I'm eager to give him a pass on this, because I've liked him as an entertainer and a writer for so long, but golly, I'd like to see more context for the quotes. Heck, I'd like to see the whole performance, to get a sense of the audience, and the rest of the show. I wouldn't be surprised if he poked fun at a number of races and religions during it. Is there at least a video or something of similar shows around the same time, so people could see what he was doing, and where he was coming from? RMT, politicians are being pilloried for far less all the time. Kinky had to know this kind of stuff would come up! Keep D&D Civil.
Why shouldnt I vote for Chris Bell? Is he the best Democratic candidate in the world? No, far from it, but I havnt seen anything out of the other three that would make me want to vote for them. At least he has experience in public life. At least he seems like a decent, albeit boring, man. If Kinky Friedman is ahead in the polls and close enough to beat Perry, I will vote for him. But everytime I see the guy on Imus or any other show he is trying to be a comedian, and a very weird one at that.
