If we do not find a way to start populating other planets, we will be gone sooner rather than later I think.............
That's too bad. The Mayans and every other prophet is correct. Think about it. Mayans? Angels? Maya Angelou? Coincidence? I think not. 4 years, and 80 days. Say your prayers.
My serious answers as a Christian: Do I believe end of the world is soon? Yes. What does soon mean? I don't know. What does the end of the world mean? I don't really know. I read about the Apocalypse, and I don't even know how to take that.
I didn't think you sounded like an ass at all (probably because I agreed with you). You should have seen the reaction of my friends in 2001 when I was laughing out loud during "Left Behind"...I guess they all believed in the rapture, but I hadn't even heard of it before.
don't get me started on Left Behind!!! read "Surprised by Hope" by N.T. Wright.....one of the clearest and best books I've ever read on what the Bible says about what the rest of the world would call "afterlife."
At a quick glance, that book seems to align quite closely to what I believe - although I'm sure it'll challenge a few things as well (since my denominational beliefs are quite far from mainstream). I've ordered a copy through Amazon.
i don't know if i'm necessarily mainstream either..not really concerned with that. email me through the board.
That's something for the kids to work out amongst themselves. I'll bring some V.C. Andrews with me into space.
I joke about this a lot. Honestly, I don't know. I am curiousto see Dec 22, 2012. I saw the History Channel report, but don't know about most of those prophecies. There is one however that isn't mentioned in it. Google "papal prophecy," there's one unrelated to the Mayans that predicts this current Pope as the second to last. If this one dies before the end of 2012, I may worry. As for us as humans, I really don't think we have the power to completely destroy ourselves. I feel like its arrogant to even think that. The magnetic pole shift may be a shift and not just reversal. There's even evidence that it is slowly diminishing. Plus a major solar storm could impact it. If it were to shift, it could affect the rotation of the Earth which would be horrible. If it were to disappear, we'd be fried. Plus if North and South switched people would have to worry about Candians illegally crossing our border. Seriously though, there are things in the universe well beyond our control, i.e. meteors and high energies from nearby stars. Its pretty hard to get all conditions right for life, as far as we know. I think some folks may take for granted how much danger the Earth is at any given time. On tha Mayans, well they we're pretty spot on with their calender and astronomy. Don't ask me why they didn't get the wheel. My hope is that when the Sun, Earth and black hole align it has no bearing on our planet's characteristics and they were just worried for nothing. Then you have the search for the "God" particle, that will one way or another have an impact on the way things are seen. Just stuff to think about before bedtime tonight. Good day.
Not nearly as much as you've been led to believe by the History Channel. The History Channel is among my very favorites...it's awesome. Very entertaining. But I saw that special too...and it was extremely sensational with nary a viewpoint from anyone suggesting that this is all bunk..and it is all bunk. Read the link I put in this thread earlier..it explains a ton. And you'll rest a lot easier, tonight!
I just hope the Mayan end of the world on 12/31/12 is not as destructive as Y2K. I had the worst hangover.
College rock bands have been singing about this since the mid-80's and nothing has happened -- that's over two decades with no world ending event. I think we are safe.
