I think people should do an exercise where they add the cost savings on cooking, cleaning, child care, and administrative work to a realistic money estimate of your time saved. I think most will either find that the stay at home parent is slacking on their duties or find it a net benefit vs. an average salary. IMO only when both parents are high earners does it even need to become a philosophical decision.
#1 Yes I get to spend time with my son. I spend time with him every day and all weekend. #2 I don't agree with the sentiment that the man has an equal right to stay home as the woman. #3 Being a man is sitting down and discussing it with his wife and at a minimum getting rid of the passive aggressiveness.
I am sorry your wife is lazy. My wife does a whole lot. Raising an infant properly is not easy, especially when cleaning, cooking, shopping, planning and other things are thrown in the mix. A serious question, do your wife think she was lazy?
She didn't "waste money" on a medical degree. I gladly paid it and would again. She is very well educated and it has made her a more interesting person. She didn't know she would want to be a stay at home mom when she was in college and grad school. It was discussed prior to her getting pregnant and I agreed that I would not make her work if she did not want to after she had our son. She had our son and said she didn't want someone else to raise him. She doesn't watch soap operas all day (although if she had time to I wouldn't care). She has our son to raise, she manages, cleans and runs the home.. Does the shopping and volunteer work. It is not uncommon for her to be busier than I am.
Is there ever a time when you don't speak out of your ass? My wife is a graduate of an Ivy league school and taught English at a couple of HISD high schools. Beside the hours put in at school, she probably put in another 30-40 hours at home grading papers and making lesson plans. She absolutely loved what she did, but I had to ask her to quit as she did not have a life besides those damn high schools. Yea...the $45k she was making definitely made it worth it. She doesn't care about money and did it to make a difference in those kids lives. There is a serious shortage of good teachers. Just cause dumb asses like you can sign up and become a teacher if you wanted doesn't mean teachers are not underpaid. This year alone HISD has had hundreds of teachers quit and a bunch of principles and its only October. Teachers should be paid a lot more so it attracts quality not quantity.
