plus it's more economical (gas mileage wise). because pressing/depressing the gas for backing in and out while the engine is already hot uses less gass than doing it after starting from cold.

and better time management. you're already at your destination so might as well spend an extra couple of minutes parking rear first. You can save that extra couple minutes when you leave your destination.

I've never owned a truck, so I always parked forward. It was only when I borrowed a friends Toyota Tundra that I realized the turn radius really sucks on those things. Backing into a parking space was the only way to get it to fit in the little spaces in my apartment complex.

    i do it occasionally.

yes, visibility less necessary when backing into a spot where no one ever is vs. when backing out of a spot into a lot where cars drive and people walk. So the safety thing.

I like the idea for after crowded events.

sometimes it happens because I accidentally pass a spot that I want, and it's faster to reverse into it than to reverse past it and then pull in

And sometimes the angles are such that it's easier to reverse in. If there's a big truck sticking out in a certain spot, I'll notice it and realize the easier angle is by reversing. All 2nd nature, mind you, so it's not like I'm sitting there making calculations

    And yes, 1 try.

Again, not my issue. I'm courteous enough to not do that to people. Point is, be a little more patient...they guy you get ticked off at making you wait 30 seconds could also be the same guy who pulls your car out of a ditch because he drives the big truck. (I've been on both sides of that equation).

Either way, don't you eventually back into a space? You have to back out to leave, and back in to park. The only true win is he good ol' two parking spots open parking strategy.

    Are you serious? Bwahaha.

If anything, if everyone just panicked and took off in the parking lot. The number of car accidents in the parking lot would outdo the casualties sustained from the actual facility exploding.

This is why; If you're in a small car and you're between two trucks/SUV's, you have to chance it pulling out. Backing in is pretty simple.

I started doing it when I was a Schlumberger guy - but it makes more sense at the park-n-ride as cars pull in one by one and you have time and space to park. When everyone is leaving the parking lot after getting off the bus, you can see people and cars better if you just pull out.

I will only pull in head-first if the bus is waiting and I might miss it in those extra 10 seconds.

Anytime I go somewhere that a 100 cars are going to try to leave at once, I do it too. Its the difference between you sitting there and wondering if someone will let you go or just starting the car and forcing your way in to the line.

lol. I just imagined an entire plant-worth of people all running for their lives, jumping into their cars, pulling out at the same time and colliding.

So almost everyone on CFs is a perfect driver/reverse parker?

I dont do it, but I own a small car (Honda Fit) so I guess I'm not aware of the turning radius issue.

I used to reverse park all the time though when I drove my lowrider everyday. I was a big fan of lifting the rear end and leaving the front down and then parking it like that.

    Wrong.

When there is an upset (and explosions definitely qualify), you absolutely do NOT drive a vehicle. If there is a gas release, vehicles could set off another fire.

I don't have a problem with people backing into parking spaces, but I do have a major problem when people back into parking spots with a line of people behind them. It's so annoying when they drive past a parking spot and put on their reverse lights, then every single car behind them has to reverse so they can back in. Those people should be shot.
