Poll: Compared to United Warriors, Rockets offense isn't complicated and defense isn't good.

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by ballscientist1, Apr 30, 2018.

?

Should the Rockets play more team ball and team defense than hero ball?

  1. Yes, at least Rockets need to team ball and shut down opponent 3 pointers.

  2. No, there is not a lot of offensive strategy in basketball unless you play for Warriors or Celtics.

Ballscientist is a well troll across bball forums for almost 2 decades now.

I think I remember when Michael Jordan was playing he would keep calling him Jordon on basketball forums.

    Jordon fans hated it.

Number of united warriors averaging over 7 assists per game: 0

Number of rocket blast off players averaging over 7 assists per game: 2

That means the golden state stars are selfish, and that they can not win the championship by March 37th.

    Rockets will win

#1 the playoffs are a small sample size. The Rockets have largely not cared about what their opponents have done in whole quarters or even halves because they have gone on a tear and built up 20+ point leads. As a result the defensive statistics are somewhat skewed.

#2 I don't want the Rockets to have a lot of players with heavy assist numbers. The reason? The downside is heavy turnover numbers and transition numbers. The Rockets formula for success is getting more shots than their opponents and forcing turnovers for high percentage shots.

#3 Draymond Green is an excellent defender and can cover multiple positions. However, Green is one player. Iguodala is a very good defender but he isn't going to be defending the 1 and 5. Further, do you know who has had success guarding Durant? Chris Paul of all people. Indeed, Mbah-Moute can guard 4 positions very well. James Harden can guard the perimeter and can also defend in the post. Tucker can defend extremely well. Paul is arguably the best defensive point guard in the NBA. Ariza can guard 3-4 positions.

#4 The Rockets formula is different that the Warriors. The Rockets aim to go to the line more than their opponent, to win the turnover battle, to shoot lots of 3 and as a consequence shoot very well on two point attempts. When the Rockets do these things, they can shoot 33% on 3's and still win 75% of the time.

#5 The Warriors on the other hand aim to shoot a high percentage from the floor and the free throw line and have a high number of assists and block shots. They do not go to the line a lot, they do not take a lot of 3's, they do not have a low turnover number.

#6 As a result, the statistics you posted do not mean much in context.
