I think this thread was born out of boredom.

Drexler was a slasher, while Artest is more of a versatile defender.

Another thing about this thread is what is Ron Artest's prime? He still has some years left in him, so this a bad time to poll this.

Drexler's prime was not when he joined the Rockets. If 10 is your prime, I think Drexler joined the Rockets when he was a 7.5

A Drexler vs Tmac poll, which he has been done before like the creation of wheels on a car, is a better comparison of scorers/slashers

I know there's an age difference between some of us here. But Drexler was not in his prime when he joined the Rockets. He was in his prime with the Blazers when he was battling Jordan for who's the best 2 guard in the NBA, believe or not, it wasn't a clear cut answer at that time.

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SvjJA93Xy9Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SvjJA93Xy9Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This doesn't change the fact that Clyde and Magic are not in the same league as Charles and Kenny on entertainment value on TV  .

Drexler in Portland > Drexler in Houston
Drexler had nothing to learn when he came with the Rockets, the Rockets had to adjust to him. that's why he's a Hall of Famer

Tmac in Orlando < Tmac in Houston
Tmac develops into a better team player with Houston and learns to play with other players. He had plenty to learn as a basketball player when he joined the Rockets

    that's for you guys.

Man, this thread is getting carried away.

Drexler was a top 50 player, but he was no where near Jordan.

Artest is a pretty good player, but no where near Drexler.

Artest is a fine defender but he's not close to being a hall of famer and I suspect that years from now he'll be remembered primarily as the guy who started that riot in Detroit.

By the end of their careers, Clyde was nowhere near Jordan. But, while they were playing, it wasn't as clear cut. There were debates about who was the better player. Clyde was the best in the west, Jordan in the east.

It was kind of similar to the Kobe-TMac debate when TMac was leading the league in scoring.

Man, another 1999 Alumni member teaching History lessons.

Professor CHI, are you going to pass this kid? or are you going to ask Clutch to talk to his parents that he hasn't done his homework on NBA Guards 80s-90s?

Depending on the time period, it wasn't clear cut who was the best 2. Drexler did make it to the Finals before Jordan did.

Put this kid back on the bus!

Ron and Drexler are two different players, but are alike in some ways. It took the trade for Drexler to pick up the team and win the second championship. It will take Ron to help come in here and pick this team up and win a championship. Here is the difference though:

    1. Drexler cut and drove into the lane with speed and cuts.
Ron gets into the lane with power and strength.

    2. Drexler had played with Hakeem in the past (UofH).
Ron has not played with any of the current Rockets.

    3. Drexler had an very athletic center (Hakeem) who didnt block the lane
Ron has Yao who is slower and not as smart as Hakeem who blocks the lane

But both Ron and Drexler came to Houston hungry for a title so I would take either one.

    Horrible analogy

Drexler playing with Akeem in college has nothing to do with the Rockets winning. its more of hometown feel good story.

Drexler's strengths and how he learned to adopt to his new teammates and coach in half a season is the key to the championship run.

Steve Francis and Yao Ming are friends and former teammates, that doesn't mean we're going to win a championship because of that.

So your saying that Hakeem and Drexler's past history of playing at UH did not help at all when Drexler join Houston?

Plus, you can not compare Francis/Yao to Drexler/Hakeem.

There are clearly a lot of people here who have only seen Clyde in Youtube highlights, if even that. And that makes me feel very old. :(
