We did better before they were born- they are bad solutions to real problems, they are controlled bureaucracies that are ineffective, inefficient and biased. There are better ways for our nation to educate our youth, improve our environment, help developing nations and cooperate with other governments. Besides we fund them with borrowed $$$$ and that is a bad way to run an economy. I am a big states rights person also if that helps. I think responsibility, wisdom and diligence should be restored to government. Push decision making and responsibility to the grass roots/local level as much and as often as realistic. Social democracies scare the daylights out of me... edit- BTW I voted for Ron Paul because he is my Congressman. You should email him- he would give you a much more intelligent response on those issues.
ron paul is pretty much the only person in government who is speaking to the real issues and speaking for the average american. if there is anyone in politics who isnt beholden to anyone its him. he is so well liked that even when they redrew the lines and put him in a more liberal district he still easily won. unlike the neocons, who are actually a bunch of big-government liberals, he is a real conservative and he's got my vote! if bush gets credit for anything, its waking me up to the false paradigm that is republican/democrat. republicans are bad and democrats are bad. he has woken me up to how totally corrupt our leaders are and for that i thank him. all you bush supporters who think you are conservatives are fooling yourselves - wake up! bush is the biggest fiscal liberal we have ever had - he spent more than all previous 42 presidents combined, and he only needed one term to do it. he has expanded the size of government beyond anything we have ever had. there is more waste, fraud and blatant kickbacks than ever and your republican congress did absolutely nothing when it came to oversight. add to that the fact that bush claims to be such a good christian conservative man, but authorizes torture (even of children) and has gay male prostitutes over to the whitehouse...real conservative, huh? and nice list rhster - except i wouldnt want to see fema abolished, just run right - get people in there who know how to handle disaster managment instead of arabian horses.
In 2000, I agreed to vote for Bush in return for a vote for the Toyota Center. I would not have otherwise. But, I'd make that trade again. Bush would carry Texas regardless, so my presidential vote is pretty worthless. And, if the TC vote failed again, I'd have no basketball team, no Clutch BBS, I'd have probably committed suicide, so I'm still better off even with Bush as president.
So Batman Jones is the second thing you think about every day? For the love of all things holy, get a life!
Yes I would. I wouldn't do it because I think Bush was, is or will be a great president but because I wouldn't be able to stand 8 years of John Kerry (or Al Gore). I know they're most of you guys' wet dream but despite the fact that the guy I voted for turned out to be quite liberal with the spending I don't doubt it would have been, at the very least, just as bad under either of those administrations. I don't like that Bush has become beholden to the radical religious element of the Republican Party but Al Gore has become beholden to the same element of the Democratic Party. Bush has some qualities that I admire (not an overwhelming number, mind you). Gore and Kerry are just complete DBs. If the Democrats had nominated someone else who wasn't so nauseating I might have considered it. As of right now, I'll take the devil I know vs. the devil I don't.
I voted Libertarian in 2004 to avoid the lesser-of-two-evils choice. Even so, I think Kerry's incompetence would have saved him from being worse than Bush in this term. He would have been a do-nothing President with 3.5 lame duck years. And doing nothing would have been better than what we got.
(edit- If you really would like to bore yourself go to the FEMA website and type in 'Emergency Powers' under advanced search. There are 100's of documents there that are pretty strange for a constitutional government.) Here are some things under FEMA jurisdiction I would like to see changed- Here are just a few Executive Orders associated with FEMA that would suspend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These Executive Orders have been on record for nearly 30 years and could be enacted by the stroke of a Presidential pen: EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports. EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media. EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals. EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen year period. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months. link
Really, the wording on this poll is misleading and has yielded flawed data. The choices should be: 1) I voted for Bush and would do it again 2) I voted for Bush but wish I voted for Kerry We need to remember that under Kerry, we'd have already cut and run and would probably be dodging nukes on our streets by now.
According to TJ, my true libpig purpose is to align with terrorists and work to destroy America while losing in Iraq. With this in mind, I was really stupid when I voted against Bush since nobody is a bigger loser or more capable of destroying our country than W himself. I can't believe I still feel compelled to speak out against his actions... I should just sit quietly by while he wreaks havoc and destroys my country for me.
I voted for Bush. I went to his inauguration. I made fun of protesters. I celebrated his victory for months. I regret all of it. :-\
Are you kidding? I'm sure The Pollster (how about that for a foil for Batman?) expected a 20-to-1 tilt against Bush. He must be disappointed--brooding in his batcave somewhere...
I dare not speak for T_J but I think he would cite your efforts as inadverent and ill-conceived rather than deliberate desturction of our country.
Hardly. More than anything it was just an opportunity to see who was insane enough to continue supporting a presidency that's regarded by a substantial majority of Americans to be a failure on virtually every level. If only 20% of Bush voters here had changed their minds that would be remarkable to me -- seeing that it's around or better than 50% is flabbergasting. But, again, it was more than anything a chance to see who remained totally nuts. Thanks for your participation.
