this is the poin in bringing it up. Clinton has been engaged in a preemptive campaign of reputation repair- no problem w/ that, but when he and his surrogates attempt to bolster his reputation by impugning the motives and efforts of dubya, bubba deserves to have his own efforts over the 8 years of his administration examined under the same disambiguating light as those of his successor.

You left out the first step which was the GOP blaming Clinton, putting out false stories such as the bogus offer to hand Bin Laden over to Clinton, that he passed on, claiming he did nothing in retaliation of the Cole, or any other terrorist actions during his administration.

The pouring over of his record started long before Clinton brought up that Bush didn't even try before 9/11.

Also, unlike Bush, Clinton admitted he didn't do enough. Bush simply had Condi go out there and lie about how much they did to, and has never admitted any responsibilty for it by stating that he could have done more, or been more focused on terrorism.

since this thread is just a rehash of the "clinton vs. fox" thread ill just repeat what i posted there...

EDIT - wheres the poll basso? scared of the truth?

its hilarious that bush supporters want to attack clinton for 9/11, yet totally ignore bush's failings and seeming facilitating of the attacks. thats right, actions that the bush administration took actually helped the attacks take place.

for example, in may 2001 the bush administration introduced the visa express program, which allowed saudi nationals to get a visa from a travel agent rather than their consulate. several of the hijackers used this program to gain entry into the u.s. was bush keeping us safe when he made it easier for the terrorists to get into the country?
    http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/t.../visa011212.htm

bush ignored warnings from DOZENS of other countries and their intelligence agencies in the months leading up to 9/11.
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,53065,00.html

    – Russian President Vladimir Putin has said publicly that he ordered his intelligence agencies to alert the United States last summer that suicide pilots were training for attacks on U.S. targets.

    – U.S. investigators confirmed in October that a 29-year-old Iranian in custody in Germany's Langenhagen prison last year made phone calls to U.S. police from his deportation cell that an attack on the World Trade Center was imminent in "the days before the attack." The warning was considered the threat of a madman.

    – Based on its own intelligence, the Israeli government provided "general" information to the United States in the second week of August that an Al Qaeda attack was imminent.

    – French intelligence echoed the "general" information in the final week of August.

    – The Italian government shared "general" information of possible attacks in March 2001 based on bugs in apartments in Milan.

    – An Iranian in custody in New York City told local police last May of a plot to attack the World Trade Center.

    – German intelligence alerted the Central Intelligence Agency, Britain's MI-6 intelligence service, Israel's Mossad in June 2001 that Middle Eastern terrorists were training for hijackings and targeting American and Israeli interests.

    – Millennium bomber Ahmad Ressam testified in closed and open court trials relating to his Dec. 1999 arrest for trying to bring bomb-making materials across the Canadian border that attack plans, including hijackings and attacks on New York City targets, were ongoing.

    – An Islamic terrorist conspiracy was uncovered in 1996 in the Philippines to hijack a dozen airplanes and fly them into CIA headquarters and other buildings. Among the discoveries was a plot for a "bojinka" – a big bang. The information was discovered on a computer and noted in the 1997 trial of Ramzi Yousef, one of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers.

    – Pakistanis were taken into custody June 4 in the Cayman Islands after they were overheard discussing hijacking attacks in New York City; they were questioned and released, and the information was forwarded to U.S. intelligence.

    – Indian intelligence shared "general" information in July 2001.

    – In July and August, British intelligence shared "general" information that it had learned through surveillance of Khalid al-Fawwaz, a Saudi Arabian dissident who has publicly acknowledged being a bin Laden operative. Fawwaz, suspected of participating in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombing in Kenya, was arrested after Sept. 11.

and finally, we have the infamous PDB of august 6 - bin laden determined to strike in the u.s. bush has used the excuse that the memo was not place or time specific so it wasnt "actionable intelligence". but im sure all you neocon bootlickers dont have a problem with this, do you? i mean, the memo didnt tell him exactly when and where bin laden was going to strike, so what could he possibly have done? why is clinton not held to the same standard? he never had specific details on when and where bin laden was going to strike.

bush is also exposed as a LIAR when he said that "nobody could have imagined flying planes into buildings" than it comes out that the cia and the pentagon were running war game drills of hijacked planes flying into buildings...but not just any buildings - the WTC, the pentagon and the white house...and these drills just happened to be taking place on september 11, 2001. very convenient, wasnt it?

Actually they are all accurate. Some might be debatable. Would you care to show where you feel the inaccuracies are?

I can certainly show you where the GOP and others went after Clinton's record prior to his appearence with Chris Wallace. So that one will hold up to be accurate.

It has been shown again and again that there really never was an offer from Sudan to hand over OBL. There never was a credible offer, yet the GOP and other Bush supporters brought this up as a supposed example of clinton's failure to deal with terrorism long before he went on Fox with Chris Wallace.

Since Sudan never made a real offer to hand over OBL that part of my post was accurate.

Condi Rice claiming that the Bush administration did as much prior to 9/11 was a lie. Her idea of response to the Cole bombing by her own statement was to do NOTHING.

She claimed no comprehensive plan was left, but the plan in general and specific pieces have been posted on the bbs in recent days, and yet Bush had nothing from that period that even compared to what Clinton had done. So that part of my post was accurate.

where do you believe the inaccuracies are. What specifically are you referring to? Please illustrate with examples?

Preemptive? Did you just experience blunt force head trauma? Do you recall the "Path to 9-11" witch-hunt staged by the righties two weeks ago that he was directly and explicitly responding to?

That is inaccurate. It didn't exist. Clinton pulled that of his ass, and preemptively tried to defend his record.

I know. I have been shown the light.

it was going on long before the abc docudrama, and in any case, i wasn't aware that abc and the 9/11 commission were neocon tools.

That is correct. They are accurate. You could debate it by using inaccurate evidence, so it is debatable.

I look forward to you providing specifics.

I did overlook one other comment which you claimed was not accurate. Clinton did admit he didn't do enough to get Bin Laden.

No it wasn't, it began one week ago, in response to a question asked by Chris Wallace of Fox News. And yes, the "Path to 9-11", in case you didn't follow it, was the pet project of right wing writers, producers, etc.....that's who it was made by and marketed to. This is all established fact.

How is this preemptive? In fact it's the opposite. Why don't you just admit you were wrong to call it that?

Clinton has been remarkably silent about it, and not criticized Bush prior to this. He has spoken about his own efforts, but has not really criticized Bush despite right wing, and GOP attacks on his dealing with terrorism.

That's why I'm astonished at basso's spin on all this. Clinton pissed me off, to a degree, because he was so damned silent about Bush's foreign and domestic ****-ups. He made several polite compliments of the President, biting his tongue, when many of us wanted him to do what he finally did. Considering how vilified he's been, for political purposes, by Bush/Rove and the far-right, Clinton's reticence up to now has been astonishing.

Does he get any credit from the GOP for not speaking out previously, before Sunday? Of course not.

What are you talking about "preemptive campaign"?

Blaming Clinton has been going on for 9/11 has been going on practically since 9/11 occurred. There were a couple of threads on this very topic on Clutchfans about a month ago while Clinton's appearence on Fox News was this last weekend.
