What kind of man takes his wife, armed or not, to attempt to apprehend (I'm assuming they didn't plan to shoot this guy no matter what) a burglary suspect who may or may not also be armed? Who deliberately puts their spouse in danger like that?

I think this is unjustifiable. The couple deliberately confronted a suspected burglar outside of their own property without even attempting to notify authorities (probably because they didn't want to be recorded disobeying the 911 operator's request that they NOT engage the suspect). Not only that but when the burglar put a barrier up and essentially trapped himself in the house, they attempted to breach the barrier and then killed the guy when he attempted to flee.

All of this over an empty house. It sounds like they were simply looking to shoot someone which I suspect is the reason a lot of folks are packing these days.

I'm looking forward to see whether they are charged or not so that I can start my own neighborhood watch and do some citizen arrests. I guess it's the adrenaline junkie inside me wanting to try my hand at the most dangerous game.

But seriously, everyone is quick to shoot everyone in this country. I'm a firm believer in the instrumentality effect of guns. There is nothing inherently wrong with guns, using them or possessing them, and they have positive uses but they do influence the way we act in an unintentionally negative manner.

You shouldn't be killing unless it is in self-defense. Period. If your life isn't threatened you have no business going after someone. Call the police, it's their job, not yours.

So you are against killing to save someones life or the rape of someone else. You are quite criminal tolerant.

That would be self-defense. By self defense, I include the defense of any human life. Stop trying to be a smart ass.

Stopping a rape isn't defense of life. It is to stop a sexual assault.

Ditto. Defending one's own life and property is one thing, but what this couple did was so stupid it's beyond words. I'm curious if they shot the guy in the back and exactly when the police were called. If the shooters didn't call police before going next door, they should be jailed for being idiots.

If they would've called the cops they probably wouldn't have shown up for an hour or so. Too busy guarding the donut shop.

Why is this even a gotdamned thread? Human feces committed a burglary of a habitation, in which case deadly force is legal and justified in Texas.

If you break into someone's house, then you don't place a whole lot of value on your own life. Stupid games will get you stupid prizes.

I think there are exceptions to this, and not just because I have born and raised in Texas mentality.

I can say that I wouldn't take my wife into a home where someone is committing a burglary. Hell, even when I'm on duty I'm not going to run into a home where there's a burglar without some backup. My life isn't worth any burglary. I know from experience that a burglar is generally a sissy who isn't looking for a fight and they're rarely armed. They're usually young and scared, just looking for something to pawn because they're broke. Or they're a POS junkie looking for another meth hit.

But the fact that they didn't "notify the authorities" holds no water. There's no legal requirement. Just like there's no legal requirement to listen to the 911 call taker's suggestions (Zimmerman).

I don't know about you, but I don't go "looking to shoot" someone. And I know for a fact I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if I shot a POS burglar. Shooting someone is a big deal and you're going to have to hire an attorney and be dragged through the legal system. You're going to get sued. It's isn't going to be fun. Anyone "looking to shoot someone" has mental issues.

But people are getting TIRED of their homes being burglarized ALL THE DAMN TIME and the oxygen thief not getting caught. In most places (Harris Co. SO likely responds to the mentioned location in Channelview) the police take minutes to get there when seconds count. People are TIRED and FED UP with the pieces of feces running wild. Their home has probably been broken into too.

The only good thief is a dead one.

If you case the house and wait til it is empty to rob it then you pretty clearly value your life since you are trying not to encounter anyone.

Count me as a clueless fool that said their actions were legal but unjustified. They acted as executioner for a non violent crime.

And the cowboy couple who went in is lucky they didn't get killed themselves.

Cool....what about a white collar thief?

You should start shooting up a Bank of America or JP Morgan.
