Superstar or few good players?

  1. Third Superstar is what we need; who cares about depth?

  2. Acquiring good players to fill out the holes on this team is more important.

Exactly. This is almost an irrelevant question. This team needs a better point guard. Getting a "third star" like Dragic will put them over the top.

The best part is they can get him without losing the depth that we have.

If your talking allstar or star I'll take the 2nd option but if were talking superstar... Lamarcus A, Kevin Durant then theirs no doubt the first option

This is the thing. In order to keep the room for the third star, you can't commit too much on role players. Thus you can't really have both.

Flexibility requires that you keep flipping the role players. You can't commit to anyone long term. Otherwise, Morey would have signed Dragic long term two years ago. This is why some of us are against the third star chasing.

If we manage to pick up both Josh Smith and Goran Dragic, this team is just plain set. No need to go after anybody else.

    Dragic/Beverley
    Harden/Dragic
    Ariza/Brewer
    Smith/D-Mo
    Dwight/D-Mo

    Perfect rotation right there.

No he won't. Rondo prefers the offense run through him (in a traditional PG kind of way) and the Rockets run the offense 75% of the time through Harden. Rarely do you see Beverley hold the ball on top of the key. All the P&R, all the drive and kick outs are Harden's plays.

    I don't think it works.

I am still not optimistic that the Rockets can beat the Blazers in a 7 game series. We played a great game against the Blazers tonight, but they were without Aldridge and Lopez. The Blazers are stacking up these 6"11' - 7 footers (Aldridge, Lopez, Kaman, Leonard). When they are at their full strength, our frontcourt might have a real height disadvantage.

In our frontcourt, I really think we need 3 really good big men - with a combination of rebounding beasts, postup specialists, and elite defenders to neutralize their bigs. Having Dwight is not enough. DMo will get pushed around, but he's the only legit 7 footer we currently have, so we cannot trade him! I am not sure whether we should keep Dorsey or Black because one is a great defender but with very limited offensive ability and the other is a great offensive rebounding beast but who may make a lot of rookie mistakes.

Either is fine, unless you end up trading one of those three stars for Jeremy Lamb and Steven Adams.

I agree, kaman will be a problem. He is too big for any of our backups.

It`s funny, Smith was considered as a possible big 3 target when we got Dwight. Now we could add him and Dragic - that would probably give us the best starting 5 in the league. Arizas contract really helps and Smith being cut really helps as well, if we can get him.

    Dragic / Beverly
    Harden / Brewer
    Ariza / KPap
    Smith / Dmo
    Howard / Dmo

That looks really good - and we still have Terry, Canaan, Jones, Shved, Johnson and Black as insurrance or trade fodder. We'd probably have to include some of These guys in the trade for Dragic, but our starting 5 should look like above and we should Keep at least one of Brewer and KPap to backup the 3 and 2 (2 could also be backed up by Terry or Canaan).

The scary Thing is: theoretically we could also get Brendan Wright salary wise. Having that starting 5 and Beverly/Terry/Canaan as our backup G, KPap or Brewer as our backup wing and DMo/Jones as our backup 4 with Wright being our backup 5 - that's pretty Close to the best Team in the league...

Third star (superstar) - Curry, Durant, Davis range

Melo is a borderline star as for now and not that far away from the very good players you mentioned tbh

Adding Brandon Wright instead of Black, will make a big difference here. This will give us a 3 man big frontcourt. I hope Morey can get something done with Angie, despite my doubts.

Poll options aren't fair. I'm in the camp in which I have full faith in Morey's ability to finagle the system operating above the cap to produce a stellar corps of role players after we acquire our 3rd star. It's impossible to do it the other way around.
