Whatever. Poke fun at a typo. The bottom line here is that you have been exposed as the petty criminal that you are. ;)

Ding, you win! Actually, economists think that the tax break would go mostly to oil companies, because of the inelasticity of supply. Essentially, oil companies will be able to raise their prices by close to the amount of the tax break, meaning that consumers will save very little.

It's funny that in the 12 posts since the two articles I put up, none have used the words "Hillary" or "Clinton", and only one actually addressed the policy under discussion. At the same time, I do wonder what T_J's reaction would be if there was a story about Democrats stealing campaign signs. At any rate, I hope he'll now refrain from criticizing any political tactics that aren't any worse than theft.

    Good luck with that.

Don't you understand that in T_J's little world, he can commit all the misdemeanor offenses he would like in the name of harassing those who disagree with him politically?

Haha, Deckard. I like the 1 dollar tax on gas, or maybe a $4 minimum/gallon. If they tweak it so that the poor aren't adversely affected, it would force many into an efficient system.

I heard a stat the if the gas tax is lifted for the summer, it would save the average American less than $30. Not that I'm sneezing at $30 if someone wants to give it to me, but that isn't enough money to me to warrant ANY potential negative impact on the economy.

not to get too involved in TJ's debate but this gas break is absurd and I would have to agree with Obama on this issue that a summer gas tax break isnt going to make a difference in the average citizen's pocket

Thanks for responding. I mean that. My idea is, I contend, simply brilliant! Believe or not, it would work. Think about it. If you had a choice of going 55 or 60 mph, or going 80 or even 85 (I'm greedy!) if you had a hybrid or some other very fuel efficient vehicle, wouldn't millions of Americans rush to buy them? I certainly would. My van probably would qualify under a "top of it's class miles per gallon" for large vans, but I'd look to get something that qualified when I replace the sedan we own (it's going to my son this summer, so we need to replace it).

$30 likely doesn't mean much to Obama's latte liberal base.

You do realize that a much larger amount of the tax cut would go straight into oil industry profits, right? That for the same effect on the budget, the federal government could just write everyone a check for an amount larger than $30?

Why don't you go find an economist who supports this proposal?

Except you'd amplify roadrage a lot from people who legally can go 80 having to navigate their way around people who can only legally go 55. :)

A major cut goes to Saudi Arabia in the end. So, yes. It's bad.

Oil industry profits are good, but government revenue is better. The McCain-Clinton gas tax holiday is largely a means of converting government revenue into oil industry profits.

    CONFIDENTIAL/URGENT POLITICAL PROPOSAL

    Dear Sir

First we must solicit your confidence in this issue. This is by virtue as being utterly confidential and "top secret".

We are SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON, the wife of the former United States head of state, PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, and also SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN, friend and associate of current head of state PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH. We got your contact through business inquiries as we were searching for contacts of a citizen who can help save our and our family's political careers since our country has been frustrating us.

We are top officials of the United States Senate Government who are interested in importation of oil into our country with funds that are presently trapped in the FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND dedicated to improving transportation. We wish to send this money to overseas accounts in the MIDDLE EAST but cannot due to restrictions in Congress Transportation Equity Act requiring that this money must be spent to build roads, bridges and high speed trains.

If you accept we will deliver to your a sum of 30 DOLLARS in the summer 2008 in form of a "GAS TAX HOLIDAY". You will then deliver this money to accounts of our friends in Middle East by taking it to your nearby gasoline station where they have information to forward the money. Please supply your bank account, social security number, address and your vote in DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES AND NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION.

But bear in mind that this transaction requires absolute confidentiality. Do not visit WWW.GASTAXSCAM.COM where there is information about dangers of our proposal and a petition to stop us from this diversion of funds.

PLEASE NOTIFY US URGENTLY OF YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THIS PROPOSAL

    Awaiting your rapid response

    Yours truly

SENATORS HILLARY CLINTON AND JOHN MCCAIN

shouldnt we encourage the use of less gas?

i just dont understand this gas tax break.

Nothing would be more damaging to the middle east than if we cut down on using so much gas. Forget your summer vacation to the damn beach....
