There are 3 police traps near my place in midtown where cops sit around witht their radar guns.

    Louisiana right before McGowen

Smith right before the 59 on ramp

    Fannin right after McGowen.

Also there is one right after the big hill on the Dallas/Pierce exit on 45 South.

The original Houston speed trap is the tiny stretch where Bellaire goes through Southside Place. It’s so old-school that my grandparents used to talk about it.

I think the whole city of Bellaire is a speed trap, actually.

Southside police sucks...they have nothing else to do so they just catch people for speeding.

ok, this may sound stupid but if cops drove around patrolling crime-ridden neighborhoods (you know, being proactive) instead of waiting for a crime to happen (you know, sitting around trying to give tickets), crime may actually go down. the more you know...prevention is key. maybe, maybe no.

The act of being a citizen of a government is giving up some freedom for security. It is a nice quote, but without security of government a bully with a gun could deprive you of your freedom unless you deprived the bully of his freedom first.

That's the first I have heard of this. That is shocking! Since when do people go through checkpoints like that so they can verify seatbelt, registration, and drivers license? The worst I've ever seen is cops running around at popular traffic lights pointing at people to pull over because they see their not wearing a seatbelt or their registration/inspection is clearly outdated. But, I've never heard of anything like is being described here.

I've heard of DUI checkpoints but I thought those were deemed unconstitutional? Guess not.

One time I met Chris Hansen, and had a nice conversation with him.

...then I found out THAT was a police trap, too :(

I got a ticket for no seatbelt at this same location almost a year ago. I was making a U-Turn under Hillcroft and 59, and the cop came like 10 feet from my car before I could see him or turn the corner.

I've seen the po-lice pull the seatbelt/inspection sticker shakedown at the U-Turn underneath South Post Oak/610 at West Bellfort and also at the intersection of South Post Oak and Willowbend.

They nailed me for no seatbelt at South Post Oak and Willowbend two years ago on a Sunday morning. I was hungover, went to Annie's for breakfast, jumped in my car for the three minute drive home without my seatbelt, and BAM they popped a $130 ticket on me.

I was on 610 by reliant on Sunday and the laser indicator went off on my radar. Usually it is a false alarm but there was a cop and he pulled someone over in 2 seconds, I mean he literally moved about 25 feet from where he was positioned. He also was in the car not outside.

610 South - West is the worst from 59 to 288 (Bellaire, Reliant, etc.). It's the only place I drive exactly the speed limit. Screw the cars tailgating me.

Also, Buffalo Speedway through West University Place. 30 MPH...are you kidding me? It's a speedway!

Man we drive the same part of town. I hate Stella Link from braeswood until Holcombe. Cops all over it.

The worst is 59N to the airport. Cops are there everyday.
