I have only skimmed the thread. However, I saw the tape over the weekend of the incident on TV. 1) The dog DID come towards him...I couldnt tell if it was growling etc...but it WAS coming towards the officer. 2) I never knew the dog was a Pit Bull. I am a dog lover. If a pit bull comes at me in ANY sort of way, I'm shooting first and asking questions later. Maybe it has to do with all of the negative press that pit bulls get on TV and all of the stories I read/see about them...regardless, I'm shooting that pit bull if it comes near me.
Don't be a wuss with your weapons. That dog probably weighed less than 50 lbs. I weigh about 180 lbs. I'd definetly try to fight the dog off before shooting it. In fact even if the dog was biting me I still wouldn't shoot it. Even if the dog was agressive towards the officer he was probably just tring to protect its family. No one deserves to die for that.
Who cares what the dog weighed...dont pit bulls have some ridiculous amount of pressure when they bite? Thats your choice...i woldnt give the dog the chance. Bottom line...its a dog...a viscious breed that needs to be wiped out anyway.
The policeman who shot that dog could have been a pet owner himself for all we know. He felt threatened so he shot it. Maybe not the moral thing to do, but totally legal.
If a breed is created by the owners to be vicious. The dog's posteriy will have vicious tendencies. Its good seeing that not everyone blames the cop.
Its obvious that you haven't been exposed to many pit bulls. I have done volunteer work at animal shelters and have seen many pit bulls that wouldn't hurt a fly. You sure are quick to label them a "viscious breed that needs to be wiped out."
Your a real compasionate guy The officer was asked to shut the door of the car so the dog would not get out. Any dog is going to become aggressive when there owners are being pulled from their car in this type of situation. The officer should have closed the door after noticing the dogs were inside to protect himself along with the other officers if he thought there was a threat of attack. What gets me is that the officer didnt have the mentaility to kick or step back from the dog, I would hate to see his reaction if he was really in a threatening situation.
How fast are your reactions? If a ****in dog came running at you you would step back? Sure that solves the problem of a dangerous and pissed off dog (you can't deny the dog was dangerous and pissed off) if you ad lightning fast reactions. Like so eloquently stated by NJRocket: BANG
