You just gotta try to make the good cards count, remember you can lose a lot more money on a good hand. Always tell yourself the most costly hand is the second best hand.
This is very true. I've lost some big imaginary dollars when my straight loses to a flush or my two-pair loses to trips, etc.. I tell myself that I wasn't wrong for betting strong - it's just that my hand wasn't as lucky.
I never play NL on the internet only Limit, unless I play a tournament. I find that playing NL on the internet is a real crapshoot. Like you said, you can't see the person. Also, another aspect people don't mention is that players are coming and going so often that you can get a feel for anyone at the table. It takes a good half-hour to get a real feel for a player (unless they are a real idiot that just bets and bets all the time....you can figure them out real quick). You just never get a good enough read or feel for anyone on the net IMO to play NL with them for any serious cash. Limit on the other hand can be very profitable on the net, but believe me Limit vs. NL are two completely different game!!!! Limit is all math...hell the hands basically play themselves if you are grounded in the math and have a decent feel for the game. Just don’t try to break the bank and play solid poker. Realize that limit poker at small to medium levels is SHOWDOWN POKER. More bluffing goes the higher the limits but I’d say on the Pokerstars, Fulltilt, etc you need to be sitting atleast 5/10 to be making moves on pots with bluffs and even then they may not work.
That's where it's not always about luck. If there's potential for a flush, you should bet strong. But if it's possible somebody already has a flush...it is a mistake to bet big. To me, poker is more about reading the player than knowing the cards. Of course, it takes a fine balance of both to really make money.
Dude, you gotta teach the kid not to slow roll you like that! Moves like that will get a person hurt!
That's pretty cool...Maybe you guys can be in Rounders 2...I keed... I've never played before and not sure I will...I think its ghey when its on TV...
My daughter and I played often when she was younger, now she's bored with the game. Frankly, so am I.
It's really not a fun game if you're not putting money on it. If you've got nothing on the line, it is pretty boring.
