I read this post and immediately agreed. Then after thinking about it, it occured to me how much of a control freak Van Gundy is and how he seemed to expect alot from Ward and Jackson to properly lead the team on the floor. He seems to expect alot from the PG (ala Steve) and I think that is why he went after Ward, since he knows the system and will be able guide the game into the ball control tempo that Van Gundy supports. Beleve me I am not saying the Ward is the end-all-be-all, but I think with the precision that Van Gundy expects that he wants professional, competent, athletic, and intelligent pg's.
I'd probably rather see someone else bring it up, letting T-Mac come off a couple of screens before he gets the ball and we initiate the offense. If the opponents aren't playing tight, we can get a couple of easy baskets with T-Mac taking it to the hole right away.
good thinking. I'm in NY and see a lot of knick games. frank williams has some skills. he needs to develope a little more to be a solid back-up. the case for him is pretty damn strong: 1. ex-knick 2. JVGwas bringing him along (he doesn't do that with too many rookies) 3. can shoot 4. doesn't turn the ball over 5. nice passer
Cat Mobley, with the offense running mostly through TMac and Yao. All we really need out of a PG is to play defense, hit open shots, and be a decent enough ball handler to advance it past the timeline. It will probably take a sign and trade because we won't get him for the MLE, but I am still clinging to hope.
