Dont sleep on Sergio Llull (or however you spell his name). PG is where we have the most depth - Lin, Beverly, Canaan, Lull potentially. I can see Morey looking at this and concluding that Lin is a fine player, but there are three players in the pipeline that will count very little against the cap, and we can better use the money spent on Lin for something else. That's what people don't fully appreciate. If we can pair Dwight with Harden, Morey will have a field day plugging in cheap productive players around them, and then bring in cheap veteran role player specialists.
You are an ABJ and LOH. Why don't you complain about Hardin's TO or even Chandler's. Hardin was shooting worse than Lin during the second half of the season. He got points from the line, but his shooting was pretty bad. Hardin can run the PNR, but Lin can also, so I don't know why it irritates you that both do it, nor does Hardin always set up our player well.
Except that Lin and Harden both had the exact same field goal percentage from within 5ft of the rim last season (57.1%). And in fact, out of all the point guards that attempted at least 350 such shots last season, only Tony Parker, Monta Ellis and Tyreke Evans had higher percentages, and just barely with the latter two.
Your talking about "time to see what you have with your young point guard prospects" while wanting to get rid of a 24 year old kid who only had 1 full year as a starter. And during that year continually improved throughout the season, with no reason for him not to get better in the next year. And in return you want a 32 year old (who is one of the worst defensive pgs that you want to partner with a bad defensive shooting guard) who made more money than Lin last year, and who will only be cheaper if everyone believes his game will only get worse? I hope you see the flaw in your logic?
No point in arguing while using facts. Some people will believe what they want to believe, irregardless of reality.
The reason Lin "continually improved throughout the season" is because he was abysmal to start the season and took two significant steps backward from the prior year. And there are plenty of reasons for him to not get better next year. He can't seem to be healthy for a playoff series, for one, and he is a terrible fit for another. Not too mention if we get a significant free agent he will have less shots. And in return, we get a 32 year old in which we know EXACTLY what we are getting because he has been doing the exact same thing for the past 6+ years. Using FG% as a fact for comparing offensive competency is completely r****ded.
He improved to the point where he shot around 40% from 3 point land for the last 3 months (which seems to be the most important thing to you about Calderon) which is good by anyone's standard except I guess yours? Injury can happen to anyone at any time. Lin started every regular season game for the Rockets (He was healthier than everyone else on the team than Asik during that span). And he is healthy at the moment, so that's not a reason for him not to improve (at least not a reason that every player might have to face). Just because you don't consider him a good fit or that he won't get as many shots doesn't mean he won't improve his game. Your reasoning is severely flawed. Yes you know what you get with Calderon. A guy who made more money than Lin did last year. A guy who is considered one of the worst defensive pgs in the league. A guy who has never scored more than 13 points a season in the 8 years he has played. A guy who is 32 and will only get worse as the years go on. Yes we know EXACTLY what we are getting with Calderon.
Isn't that essentially what you were doing in your other post? I agree that Calderon is a better offensive fit for the team than Lin right now. We will have to agree to disagree on the value of Lin's defense relative to Calderon's, as well as Lin's prospect for future improvement/health.
I can't image Calderon and Harden back court defense. It is like an open door to the basket. We desperately need Asik because Dwight will be in foul trouble every single game.
Lol, didn't you just put up a chart of Calderon's 3pt% to show how good you think he is? You can't have it both ways. But, that wasn't my point. In which Ligtningbolt responded with facts showing that you were absolutely wrong. Lin is one of the more efficient pgs taking shots at the rim. But, as I said. I doubt reality has any bearing on how you see things, which you proved by your answer.
The NBA is not like playing a video game against a computer opponent with no previous play memory and with the fatigue setting turned off. Defenses adjust. Lebron can't take every shot and make every pass, and neither can Harden. Btw, Lin was also one of the top PGs in the entire NBA at the rim last year.
This is getting ridiculous. Jose Calderon is now the answer at PG?!? I thought the anti-Lin crowd wanted a "championship calibur" point guard ... In a few days, there will be a cry for Steve Blake.
