Note that this is AT New York. Meaning the madison square garden crowd went ballistic over someone from the opposing team.

After reviewing it myself, I can't agree. The ball pops up into his right hand just a split second before his left foot hits the ground, meaning he should be allowed to plant that foot and then follow with is right for a legal 2-step gather. What it ends up being is possession of ball, left foot down, right foot down, left foot down, jump.
I think Drexler's glide dunk is better than Jordan's cradle dunk aesthetically. It looks like something coming out of Crouching Tiger.
By my understanding of the rule, the ball has to be clearly gathered in hand and then you get two steps. Its hard to say when exactly the ball was secured in his hand -- it could be a split-second before he planted his foot .. true. The way its usually called, they give players a bit of leeway there. The gather and the third to last step more or less occurred at the same time. I think its allowable, but its borderline.
Is this poetry? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gpwqIQaGFmg?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gpwqIQaGFmg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> What about this? <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fEef1T_lqwA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fEef1T_lqwA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I think the first angle, the one from Jordan's right, shows that he took the first step before he grabbed the ball. So that's not travel. The second angle, the one from Jordan's left, looks like he grabbed the ball before he took that first step. Yeah, I agree it's a split second thing. It could have been called either way. In that case, it would never be called. The refs usually are quite lenient in calling travel (except for that one against Martin late in the Memphis game ). Not to mention it's Michael Jordan.
