Welcome to Houston Yao Ming. I know you have a lot of pressure on you right now but do not worry. The people of Houston are behind you. Houston and the NBA will be different from what you have experienced but continue to work hard and you will be fine. Rudy T, Carrol Dawson, Steve Francis, and Cuttino Mobley will help you with your game and the life of a NBA player. Keep up the good work and the Rockets are looking forward to playing with you and the people of Houston are looking forward to seeing you play.

PS: Houston can get very HOT so be prepared for the weather.

    Mr. Yao,
After being selected number one overall, it is normal to feel pressure, but there is no need to. Everybody knows the skills you have, and thats why the Houston Rockets selected you, all you have to do is play this NBA game with the skills you have. From the videos the fans and myself have seen, it is obvious you are a tremendous basketball player, just come to the states, and play with the same intensity. Not only do people know the skills you have, but also the heart and desire you have, and that is also quite obvious through the comments you have said. Especially about Shaq. You said you wanted to play the best center in the league, well shaq is the best center. And if you play your game, you can be the best center in this game, and beat shaq, but remember, you need to be yourself, and play like Yao Ming can play. don't try to be something your not. Good luck, and i cant wait to see you in a Rockets uniform!

    From,
    Yao Ming's number 1 fan!

    Yao Ming,

Fans of the Houston Rockets understand that you feel pressure as the #1 pick in the NBA Draft. You feel like a target because so much is expected of you; and other players in the NBA will want to prove themselves better than you.

    Don't worry about it.

You are a skilled basketball player with an intense desire to become better. And you will get better, each game, each month, each year. The most important thing about you is this: you obviously have a good sense of humor. Hold onto it. You'll need it. Not every day will be perfect. But, before long, everyone will understand why the Rockets placed so much faith in you.

We know you need time to adjust to the NBA. But the community of Houston---all people, all races---is ready to welcome you with open arms. You've given us a big reason to get really excited about the Houston Rockets.

So, Yao Ming, please take a deep breath, let it out; take another deep breath, let it out. Put aside that heavy burden that others place on you, and simply enjoy this game of basketball that you love so much. And everything will be fine.

By the way: I can't wait to cheer for you when you get here!

    Yao Ming,

Congratulations on being the first pick of the NBA draft! I am very happy you are a member of the Houston Rockets.

It's natural to feel pressure, especially when you're about to move half a world away from home. You will enjoy Houston very much. Houston Rockets fans are the greatest in the world and will make you feel at home in no time at all.

Good luck playing basketball in China and I look forward to your arrival in America.

Yao (may I call you "Yao"? Or do you prefer "Ming"?),

Everything is bigger in Texas, don't you know? I hope Houston soon feels like home to you.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going".

His quote reminds me of you every time I hear one of your interviews. You are articulate, sincere, dedicated and humorous. But most of all, you exude a single minded intensity, subtle but clear.

    I LOVE IT!

YOU KNOW where you are going, AND the WORLD is making way for you. Just don't let the pressure become too burdensome, treat it for what it is, a glorious adventure.

And I hope to see you in HAWAII soon .... for the big man camp!

    Yao Ming,

Congratulations on your accomplishments and on being the number one pick in the NBA draft. We Houston Rocket fans are excited and very proud to have you on our team. We are also very happy that you will be making your NBA home in the great state of Texas. One of our many sayings to show pride in Texas is to say,"everything is bigger in Texas". So you will fit very well here! You are coming to the best state in the USA! Even our name,Texas, means "friendly". We know you will find that to be true here.

We wish you much success and happiness in our country and we hope you will consider the USA as a second home for you. We have heard that you are a hard worker,a humble person and that you have a very good sense of humor. We hope that is true and while we hope you will adjust well to this country,we want you to be yourself. Don't let anyone change your values.

We can't wait for next season to start so we can have you play for our team! We understand you need time to adjust to the NBA. We will give you our support while you learn at this new level. But we have confidence that you will do your very best and that is all we can ask for. Thank you for coming to the Rockets....the new NBA dynasty!

    Welcome aboard Yao -

If I were you I wouldn't feel any pressure. Just keep working hard trying to be the best that you can be, and I'm sure you will not only be a big impact on the NBA but on the Houston Rockets. I certainly hope you play as well with our Houston Rockets as much as you beat up on the CBA's Rockets in the Finals!

Anyway, welcome to the city/team/community. I hope you like it.

BTW, if you feel any communication barrier just come to this site everyday and in a few weeks/months you'll understand English perfectly :D

Yao, you're a very impressive basketball player; and from your quotes, an impressive person.

I wish you all the best. If you weren't a Rockets player, I'd wish you all the best - 1... but, luckily... you get all my best.
