I've seen my share of committed possums on the highway... :) commitment to running requires bb players who can play that game.

scoring in transition begins with rebounding and a good outlet, a couple of guys getting out on the wings and the person running the break has to have a good bb head and be able to pass. Also the ones running need to have some athleticism.

First of all the Rockets do not have a point guard on the roster who is good on the break- that is a zero.

Second they do not have athletic wing players except for Tracy at his finest.
You would think Snyder would fit the bill but he doesn't play smart.

Bonzi has the smart but lacks the athletism, Battier, Scola, Francis and the rest have not shown anything as far as running in transition.

Our roster is built around Yao who excels in half court on the low block; TMac who excels when we is able to play with quickness and strength off the P&R or when he is shooting unconscience (which doesn't happen often like it did earlier in his career).

Because of that our offense is better suited to emphasize slowing the game and playing half court.

That is why it worked for us to try to surround Yao and Tracy with 3 pt shooters. Any good high percentage shooter would be a good fit for Yao and Tracy. Unfortunately we had Battier, Head and Rafer as the primary shooters last season- hardly a formitible group and we had no bench.

The system was in place last season. What was needed is some better more athletic shooters.

The quest for shooters led to Novak, the desire to move TMac to the SF led to Bonzi and VSpan didn't have a consistent outside game. He could have developed into a slasher but he didn't earn his way and then he complained about it.

Now we have MJames and SFrancis and Scola. None of them are consistently making the open shot and the offense has changed removing the set up for the open 3 point shot. We have no offensive identity and we are losing our defensive edge.

I would say that unless we start pounding the ball in to Yao and somehow we light a fire under Tracy and surround them with shooters we are going to see more of the same inconsistency.

Right now our team has to play inspired and flawless ball to win at a high level and a new system isn't necessarily the thing you want to have to deal with when you need that type of effort to succeed.

I feel we are losing this season. That is tragic, because we were getting really close to breaking through.

    good post rhester.

Forget this feaux run and gun crap. Yes, get easy baskets when you can and push the ball. that's a given. But that doesn't mean you stop going down low early and often. Doesnt mean you go away from your strengths. yao in the low post. Tracy and yao on PnR. And spot up shooters. Rockets do have good spot up shooters, what they dont have is guys guys who roll off screens and shoot well or even dribble pull up shots.

People think its boring but simple plays and guys spreading the floor at the 3pt line works well with a very good center. Afterall, that philosophy did bring the rockets 2 championships

the principles may be the same, but "the game" is different as well.

you do have to be committed but that still doesnt mean it will work with a given team. square peg...round hole

In my opinion this is not at all RA's fault. Look at our team, not to talk about the whole "passion" deal anymore, but it really looks like no one gives a crap about whether we win or lose. Most are thinking, "As long as we get to the play offs, it doesn't matter." If they continue to play like the are right now, there will not be any play offs, or even a winning record.

Rick Adelman has some fault in terms of there being NO reprecussions to the players for their bad playing, except for benching MJ, and SF3. So, instead of firing him, I think there should be a call for reform.

While I disagree with you and have largely been a Rick Adelman apologist on this board...
I tried to get a J-V-G chant going tonight.
