I keep hearing how Van Gundy's downfall was making adjustments in the post-season. If Van Gundys system worked in the regular season, why wouldn't rick try to replicate that in regular season and make the adjustments that JVG couldn't is the post-season. Van Gundy's system worked. 52 wins (prob more if Yao played) of getting the most out of his players, where as Rick who is failing to get effort from most of the team.

JVG wasn't wrong when he had the rockets pounding the ball to Yao.

52 wins home court in the first round, game 7 on your own floor and you still don't make it past the first round.

and.....? I don't think that explains why Rick tears down what worked in the regular season. You put a couple more shooters and penetrators in the system that was, and then you most likely advanced past the second round. And with Everyone's hope that Rick can make the adjustments that JVG didnt, we should be in good shape. No need to start from scratch which is what Rick seems to have done. You build upon what was working... We are back to the drawing board.

the owner must be rubbing off on them ;)

the rockets may not be playing well, but at least adelmans run and gun, free flowing offense is more exciting...oh wait

and...utah was a better team with more talent. Rockets had a lead and when it was crunch time they flat out got outplayed. That's different than getting out coached.

    Let's exaggerate it, imagine this:

It ain't me out there turning the ball over during penetrating (oops i told Shane to do so)
It ain't me chucking from the perimeter (Yao, knock it fxxx down!)
It ain't me did a ugly post move ended in a block (Rafer this time, we are show this kind of circus move for selling more tickets)

    and blablabla.....we lost a game.

It ain't me. I didn't even touch the ball.
    I'm still a good coach.
I have a system by which we can win a championship, but i never won a single one just because on this planet i can't get all the players who can fit in it.

Everyone can be a "good coach" like me.

    Totally BS.

And Lex, take it for your retxxd move of bringing in Rick, sign on cheque and let him go, or ROX fans like me will go away.

I am not a Rick Adelman fan...I am a Rockets fan, I am willing to give a PROVEN coach like Adelman a chance to install his culture, but if it fails like JVG's did, I will be happy to run him out of town too.

All that matters is the Rockets get someone that can help get them to the championship.

JVG is nowhere near as good as any of them, and Pop plays rookies and Euros....Riley is a better coach and motivator and Brown - well I think he flat out sucks.....he got lucky one year, then the team ran him out of town.....

It would be if the team quit rebelling and actually started running it...but Tracy "I only walk up the court" McGrady is leading the rebellion.

yeah. jvg never plays younger guys or guys from other countries. Yao...chuck, luther. thats just a weak and trite argument. Btw, how is adelman doing playing "the young guys"? Oh yeah, comparing parker and manu to anything the rockets have had is laughable. Talk about apples and oranges.

JVG, POP and riley are very similar. But yeah, that philosophy of tough defense, execution and intensity never works.

rebelling? Tmac doesnt run the court well and he hasnt in years. Yao, even though he tries, is not great at it. Battier isnt that great at it. The teams best players dont run the court well. This isnt a "run and gun" team and will not be.

I do find it ironic that you think Run and Gun will work anyways....besides being "entertaining" there hasnt been a team that uses it and won a champinoship yet

I don't think we are a run and gun team but running up the court and getting some early offense would help a TON....and it only takes the committment to do it.

Tell me Donkey, didn't the Celtics run a lot under Bird? Were they a bunch of thoroughbreds?

for once i agree with you that we should give adelman more time.i've seen flashes of his offence in rox games and it is a beautiful and efficient offence.but please stop with your hate on van gundy,he didn't have enough talent on the team and t-mac was not in shape last year and yao broke his foot and was not the same.as for vspan, stop it this guy is gone .he can't shoot ,he is a turnover machine and i've never seen a guy get his shot block as often as him

early offense would be great. Hell, any offense would be great.

    This just in...it's almost 2008, not 1988.

The principals of basketball have not changed at all since then.....you have to be committed to running to make it work.....

rick adelman has never had a good season in the first year that he's taken over a team as the coach (some were midseason, but there isn't a large sample size). anyway, he had a .500+ record in one of them (sacramento).
