He is an embarrassment. Put him on the end of the bench where fans can throw popcorn at him until his ridiculously large contract expires. I'd much rather see Posey out there who contrary to popular belief is a decent shooter, certainly competitive with anything Glen Rice has done so far as a Rocket. Let T-Rock and Boki fight for the remaining small forward minutes but Glen is a slug, why God why didn't we just let Shandon Anderson's contract expire instead of bringing this pile of excrement we know as Rice onboard? Sit him now.

    SSG,

    You are insane.

Glen Rice's shooting has been very good this year, and we need it on our team. He also hits his shots at the most opportune times, and is a leader on the team, please tell me you are kidding.

There is no question Posey was a brilliant addition, but right now Glen complements this team very well, as I figured he would once he was fully healthy again.

Honestly, I could see Boki taking Rice's job in a year or two, and Posey becoming our sg, with Cuttino using his scoring ability as a microwave "Vinnie Johnson" type.

But your hatred of Rice is not warranted, not this year, at least.

He should be on the bench though.

Why is he in the starting 5, with Yao, Cat, and Francis, and Griffin, the last thing the Rockets need is a player that needs to score.

Rice would be better suited to playing against the other teams 2nd unit.

He would provide a good spark off the bench for our 2nd team.

Right now, he is wasted as a starter.

To be quite honest, DaDakota, I would rather keep Glen in the starting lineup and use Posey at sg with Mobley as our super sixth man. Glen fits in very well with Yao. And I think this allows Cuttino to do what he does best, score in bunches.

Glenn is too slow. Yes he can hit a shot once in a while, but he is a total liability on defense. And we do not need any more of that. Harpring and Cheaney were being guarded most of the night by Cat and Rice. Notice the numbers that those two put up? We need defense.

I agree. Posey is not a great outside shooter and Rice is. Posey is a better defender than Mobley. Mobley can come off the bench and do his thing without worrying about how many shots he can get with Yao, Rice, and Francis all on the court.

My thoughts exactly! Any team with a good starting 3 has a huge advantage with Rice guarding him. When they swing the ball back to his man, Rice is way too slow to recover in time to even get a hand in his face. Anytime he has to rotate and cover an open man, he's way too slow to get there and challenge. His offense is needed much more on the second unit, especially if he can guard a less talented player.

Rice offset his bad defense with his scoring. But when he scores a single digit point, he is worthless.

IMO, the offense is going pretty well for the Rockets and the defense seems to be slumping. Should we sacrifice offense for defense....of course!! I think Glen's 3-ball contribution is overrated with the starting lineup. If Griff is out there also, we have 4 guys who can hit the three!! The great thing about Glen is that he knows how to pass and to run the offense. His purpose would be better served with the 2nd unit because his defense is horrible. Besides, Cat and Stevie is the key to running the offense. It doesn't matter what Glen does.

I often wonder if the other team's 3 gets into a zone for the entire night because Glen was on them initially. If a guy starts out 3-3, they'll have the confidence to keep shooting. But if the guy starts out 0-3, they'll hesistate.

I know Rice is the veteran leader of the group but I wonder if he gets the respect of a people like Malone and Stockton from his team. Do the Rox younger players also consider him washed up and a liability?

Agreed. Cat has already shown in the past that he can excel when he comes off the bench. Rice, while he isnt the youngest or quickest guy in the lineup, acn hit a big 3 here and there. I also agree that Posey would be better suited starting.

Well...Glen Rice is too slow. He can still shoot but he can't keep up on defense. But he's a captain.
Maybe Posey had such a bad field goal percentage from Denver was because he had to force most of his shots. He didn't have much help.
Cuttino would never accept a bench role.

Da Dacota:- I agree with you! Rice is getting too much playing time especially since his defence is so poor. 15 mins max off the bench with Rice getting 10 shots.

RudyT plays Cat over 40 minutes a game so I wouldnt expect him to come off the bench. But Rudy didnt bring Posey in to sit on the bench either,he will get more of Glens minutes as he learns the Rocket system. He should start at sf....To sit Cat down in favor of Glen Rice or James Posey is nuts.

Why? Cat does not look comfortable playing in a system where he is not one of the primary scorers. If we assume Ming should get more touches and more shots, where do you think that's going to come from?

Posey has played and should continue to play some 2. He is taller and a better defender than Mobley.

If Yao Ming and Francis were on the bench, the offense can revolve around Mobley, which is exactly what he needs to be effective.

Many people think Mobley is way better than Posey. Mobley is a better scorer and shooter. Posey is a better defender and rebounder.

I'd have to say that to bench our second leading scorer is insane.
We need Cat out there to play with Yao and Steve. Then and only then can they develop the chemistry they need.

Posey should be our starting 3 soon. I think we have enough scorers on the starting 5 with Yao, Steve, and Cuttino getting the shots.

That's the whole point. If Cat is still our second leading scorer in a few years we have a major problem.

Steve and Yao should be our primary scoring options. Glenn Rice is a veteran who knows his role - stand there and make a jumpshot. Griffin/Taylor can score occasionally and rebound. Posey provides the defensive energy, run the break and make the open jumper.

Mobley would be a better option off the bench because he's a better scorer. Whenever Yao and Steve go to the bench we have a hard time making baskets. A fresh Mobley can come in and just light it up. Rice really cant do that.

You can come off the bench and still play 35 minutes/game - which is what Mobley should be playing.

What I like to do is play Posey about 30-35 minutes a night. He could play at SF 20-25 minutes and the rest at SG. I don't think the idea of playing Mooch at PG and SF at SG fan out well when it come to defending the other team's guard. I think Steve is undersize to guard the other's team SG and Mooch is a liability on defense. When they are on the court together we are at a disavantage defensively at both guard position. So I think we should have at least one good defender at the shooting guard position at all time. This would limit Mooch minutes to about 5-10 minutes a game backing up Steve. As far as Rice goes, I think it will better for him to come off the bench. When Steve, Cutino, and Yao is in the game there is not enough touch for him to be effective. Also our second unit do not have a good scorer so Rice could serve well there. I remember in one game Rudy continue to use Rice to post down low on many consecutive plays and he does respond to that. The only problem with that is when he post down low it remove Yao from the play. So I think since we don't have much scoring option on our second unit, Rice should strive in that role as a scoring threat. We also need Posey to defend against the other's team starting SF so they don't goes off against us like the past few games.

Why couldn't Yao take mid-range shots instead of creating picks because he often positioned himself in that distance?

and don't forget how the old "big dog" bite like crazy.

and he can defend the other team's SG too. that's valuable when we play against the Lakers, Magics, and Celtics.

    Yao Ming, Cato
    E. Griffin, Taylor
    J. Posey, Rice
    Mobley, Hawkins
    Francis, Norris

this lineup is good enough to make the WC playoffs but not a heave weight contender though.

I'm still wishing another trade to bring this team to the next leavel. make this team more balanced and mature. yeah, still thinking about Brand and Barry.;) imaging we have Brent Barry instead of Cat, we then have everything we ask for our starting 2 guard: size, less shot attempt and higher FG%, ball handling & passing, help defense(play the passing lane), experience & maturity, higher basketball IQ(see how Yao Ming fits the team), and a true "role player" who understand his role complement the franchise players on his team. imaging Barry and Posey being our 2&3 then we don't have to worry about who starts who come off the bench because that's a perfect 2-3 combo to complement our stars.
ok, I know you homers still think Mobley is better but I didn't say "trade cat for Barry" so don't worry about finding words to tell me I'm stupid.

Rice is actually a more suitable fit for the starting lineup than Posey.

    1) With Ming at center, Rice gets more open looks than if Eddie or Cato were in the game. Rice also knows how to throw perfect post-entry passes after playing with Shaq for two years.

    2) Mobley and Francis' penetration are perfect for Rice's game. Can yall not see that?? Once they drive, Rice's man collapses, then they dish back out for a wide-open 3.

    3) Posey cannot shoot to save his life. He is the ideal player to bring off the bench to provide energy and great defense on the other team's best player. While Rice forces his man to guard him, Posey disrupts the other team's offense as soon as he enters the game.

The fact is, both Glen and Posey bring different dimensions to the small forward slot- one's a scorer; the other's a defensive specialist. But notice how yesterday's game vs. Utah, it said our starting lineup has an average age of 26 years. That's why Glen starts, for his veteran influence and his experience with a young lineup.

So quit bashing Rice- he's playing his role; he's healthy; and he gives 100% effort. That's all anyone can ask of a player.
