No, you don't get him to be on the team, you get him to force Portland to give you something or to take the hit on their cap...which they should anyway, he clearly is not unable to play medically. DD
so in reality, as long as any team signs D Miles, all other teams under the salary cap/luxury tax walk away with $250,000 is this accurate?
Yes.... Portland has to pay dollar for dollar on how much they are over in Lux tax, and it gets evenly distributed amongst the teams that are under the cap. Like the Rockets. DD
Get it done Morey! Jeeeeez! Why hasn't he done it already, i's a great opportunity, lets rape these guys. Morey on the phone(already smiling while dialing): "Heeeeey there Kev' how's it going?" "Who is this?" "Ah c'mon don't tell me you forgot me? Or probably your too busy with whats going on at the moment!" "Who is this?" "Its Daryl. I want Bayless. Two days." Phone rings up.
I don't think you will actually be able to distort anything of value from Portland. I don't think the League will allow you to sign him and/or trade him to Portland for the purpose of not allowing him to play. Besides, it is a dick move. If another team is going to make the move-- either for actual bball reasons or to be a dick, and Portland is going to get screwed anyhow, why be the dick? I mean, you piss off Portland, a potential trading partner, and maybe a few other folks in the league, too.
I don't remember ever reading a response to a thread that was so completely oblivious to the rest of the thread.
Possibly but while it would be obvious on the surface to everyone, as long as it's not explicitly in writing, what can the league do? Wouldn't it just be analogous to the common practice of trading a player for cap purposes only to have them released and resigned? I don't think I would do it, but for a different reason. Pritchard scares me and who knows what other deals of ours he would sabotage in the future if we did this. However, on principle? He's screwed us already and other teams still continue to trade with him so I don't think it's an issue of pissing other people off.
I'd do it with the quickness. These guys aren't going to make any substantial trades in the west for one. Two, they don't have that many guys I would want that they would actually part with for anything we have on this team. Sure you come off looking like a jerk, but business is business. I don't see them apologizing for knocking us out of two players we wanted.
are you talking about when they were ahead of us in the draft and they picked up someone ahead of us that we and probally half the other league was looking at? You are a imbecile.
Haha...I like your thinking. Head/Rafer for Blake/Outlaw is my blackmail proposal! That or Head/Rafer for Bayless/Blake. But, sadly...In all seriousness we have enough problems of our own. We need to use that last roster on somebody that can help us win now. Miles doesn't appear to have any value outside of the underlying issue with his contract. Somebody will pick him up -- we're only talking two games. We can't afford to play the karma game right now!
wow, i wonder who will be the team that will ruin the blazers. There would be hate between both of them surely.
Actually there was a deal in place if my memory is correct for us to move up and grab him and they slipped in at the last minute and moved ahead of us to take him. Now, if we're going to go to name calling moron, it would be "You are an imbecile." I don't mind someone taking a shot at me, as I'm one of the most self deprecating people you could ever meet. But, at least use correct gramar if you are going to call someone else an imbecile.
Dont think we'd be desperate or vindictive enough. But damn, I would love to pick him up just to get revenge for their thievery of B Roy.
Uh-oh. This is getting REALLY interesting... The Portland Trail Blazers have issued an unusual warning to rival NBA teams who are thinking about hiring their former player Darius Miles: Put Miles on the court, say the Blazers, and we may sue you. `"The Portland Trail Blazers will take all necessary steps to safeguard its rights, including, without limitation, litigation,'' wrote Blazers president Larry Miller in an e-mail addressed late Thursday night to all NBA team presidents and general managers. SI.com was provided access to the memo by an NBA team executive. [...] Here is the full text of Miller's statement that was dispatched to rival teams Thursday: "Team Presidents and General Managers, "The Portland Trail Blazers are aware that certain teams may be contemplating signing Darius Miles to a contract for the purpose of adversely impacting the Portland Trail Blazers Salary Cap and tax positions. Such conduct from a team would violate its fiduciary duty as an NBA joint venturer. In addition, persons or entities involved in such conduct may be individually liable to the Portland Trail Blazers for tortuously interfering with the Portland Trail Blazers' contract rights and perspective economic opportunities. "Please be aware that if a team engages in such conduct, the Portland Trail Blazers will take all necessary steps to safeguard its rights, including, without limitation, litigation.'' More here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/nba/01/09/Blazers.Miles/index.html Seems to me that unless a team exec says something stupid publicly, it would be damn near impossible for the Blazers to prove someone signed and played Miles specifically to hurt Portland financially.
