I like Dunta against the run. I think he is horrible in coverage these days. I would be open to signing him but probably not more than about 3.5 a year. I feel like thats being a little generous seeing as he gives his guy about an 8 yard cusion, lets him catch it and then makes the tackle. A more pressing need imo is signing Pollard

How much are you regretting turning down that 23 million guaranteed now, Dunta?

    Dumbass.

I like Dunta, and I wouldn't mind seeing him back next year. Like I said in another thread, he seems to be a great teammate - good chemistry guy. Other than his boneheaded moves within the past year, he's been a decent Texan. I think you offer him somewhere between 10 and 12 million guaranteed, for 3 years. Give him an incentives laden contract, and maybe he can prove, on performance, that he's worth what he thinks he is. Otherwise he walks.

If we keep him, I would not be opposed to seeing him put on another 10 pounds of muscle - dude is skinny. If he can do that, I think you give him a good look at safety. Pollard and Robinson at safety, I'm happy with that. That would give us a mean, hard-hitting (possibly one of the top-three hardest hitting) safety duo. Quinn and Reeves could hold us over at corner, after we draft another one to compete in the second round or so.

If all of this (my grand-funk-master plan) falls into place, then we will take Mount Cody with our first round pick, thus assuring us of a Super Bowl.

Oh yeah, just for good measure, we need a kicker.

I think anything in the range of a 5yrs 30mil is IDEAL for Dunta and his performance. Anything higher than that or the franchise tag is excessive. Sry, he isnt that GOOD anymore, just mediocore.

If he's mediocre, he should be a stopgap until you find something better. Why commit to a 5 yr deal for mediocrity?

I'd be very intrigued with moving him to FS. He clearly lost his coverage quickness, but as a complementary defender for double teams or help coverage he would be less immediately responsible for reacting to a pass. He should still have enough speed to roam half the field, and he can still tackle open field if he's squared up. But is 5'10" 185# very small for the FS average?

Earlier I would say hell no. This guy's actions on and off the field were borderline dumb. Now I'd be willing to give him another deal, albeit $5-7 mil. He's not a bad corner...he takes the best WR every game. He still brings the pain when he tackles. I might still draft DB in 1st round though.

Since most NFL contracts are not guaranteed, you don't have to keep him (or pay him) for the full five years.
