Franchise tag or not, Texans' Robinson wants to return By JOHN McCLAIN Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle Jan. 4, 2010, 12:11PM “I want to be here,” Robinson said. “I've been through some tough times here, and I'm proud of the way we finished and what we can build on. “I realize this is a business. I won't take things personally like I did last offseason. I'd like to get a long-term deal, but I wouldn't be unhappy about it (if he's tagged again). I'm blessed. You can't be mad when you make $9 million. “I love my teammates. I love the city. I think this team's going deep into the playoffs next season, and I want to be part of it.” http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6797865.html
i bet he'd be happy to get offered 9 million because he won't be getting more than 5 million anywhere else.
Glad he knows his worth isn't as high as he once thought...although,something tells me he'd be offended at any offer less than 7 mil per year. Boy would he love to be franchised now...too bad sucka.
How much do you guys think he's worth at this point? Not necessarily by market standards but to the Texans. Did his play this season even validate half his pay? I read some statistical analysis on the Chron a couple of weeks ago that I believe showed Dunta was one of the worst in the league at his position and certainly not even the best on the Texans. I think they even factored in that he was guarding better players and it still didn't look good for him. Edit: I just managed to dig up that article. My previous statements weren't completely accurate. They were looking at his performance from two seasons ago, when he was coming back from injury, not this season. Still, it does raise some question marks. Here is the relevant excerpt: http://blogs.chron.com/texanschick/2009/07/talking_texans_with_football_o.html
He is too small to play safety I agree with this. If he wants anymore, they should let him walk and draft a CB.
He might not have the size you want from a prototypical safety, but he's got a nose for the ball and brings the heat. Lott was an even 6 feet tall....weighed 200.
Hey Im no huge Robinson fan, but if we can get him back at a decent value, Ill be willing to take him, he had a bad year obviously, but I think he still has something left in him
I think many Texan fans would take him back for a reasonable contract. What I think will happen though is the Texans will make a lowball offer and Dunta will feel disrespected and start talking trash through the media again, ultimately ending up in another zip code next season. He's saying the right things right now. Let's see how long that lasts. I'm guessing not long.
After the year he had I bet Dunta would LOVE to get tagged again because there's no way he'll ever see that much money again.
How much more size does a FS need anyway over a CB? Is it necessary for both safeties to play some against the run these days? As for Duanta, he's probably pretty pissed he didn't take the Texans offer last year.
I think FS are not that big .. . Only way you let him go . . . is if you can improve Are you willing to let him walk and take a chance on a rookie or anyone else on the roster? Rocket River
Then he can probably make a good safety. His tackling ability is definitely wasted as a corner. Or a free agent? Considering his play this year, I'm pretty sure it won't be hard to find a CB to replace his production. And it certainly won't take $9 mil to do it either.
Javier Arenas in the 2nd rd. Ballhawk, play making corner that this defense desperately needs. Havent had one of those since Aaron Glenn. Pollard is by far the best play maker in the secondary.
