The year Bulls won the first championship. The WCF final is between the Lakers and the Portland. The Lakers were an aging team, Portland is upcoming under Adelman. The Lakers were really out of gas, however, Magic Johnson threw the ball across the court with some seconds left and let the clock expire to win the game and the series. If Adelman was able to make Portland win the WCF and thus play the Bulls. It could be a totally different story. Both teams will be first-time final participants. Bulls won't have the final experience.

The second year around, the story is different, Bulls have all the experience while Portland was a newbie.

Now the Sacremento Kings story, it is amazing they didn't beat the Lakers with homecourt. It is 100% on Adelman, no doubt. He didn't prepare players well.

So he had them prepared to win the first and 2nd round, whereas JVG didn't have them prepared to win the first round.

Sounds like an upgrade to me.

I'd like to get Adelman, but that argument isn't really valid as Van Gundy took the Knicks to the Finals.

Adelaman has much better talent. On either the Portland or Sacremento teams, commentators always argue they have excellent talents at least on par with their opponents.

Not with JVG. This Utah-Rox series is first on Yao who didn't recover his quickness from the injury and thus couldn't get it going against Okur, second on T-mac who missed golden opportunity in 4th quarters of Games 6 and 7 by not penetrating. This tells you Yao could be an injury-prone player in the future while T-mac does not have the KILLER INSTINCT. It is coach's job to tutor T-mac but JVG does not have the Pedigree as a championship coach.

No, was it on during JVG's lone finals trip in a strike shortened season?

Macgyver wasn't even on television in 1999.

Was the playoffs also strike-shortened? Does anyone still talk about the Spurs as an illegitimate champion?

Adelman is good, but he, too, sucked with Golden State... coaches need players, period.

That's just silly. Adelman wasn't causing Chris Webber to choke and miss all those free throws at the end of Game 7. Nor was he responsible for some sketchy refereeing in that series or Robert Horry's game winning shot in Game 6.

The Kings got screwed out of the finals that year and the PLAYERS choked in game 7. It wasn't some bad playcalling, it was just missed free throws.

Sure, missed free throws tell you that player are not mentally tough.

Before Phil went to the Lakers, Lakers couldn't win. The year Phil went there, they won a championship, you think it is coincidence? Phil is a master at mental games while Adelamn sucks in this area. That's why Adelman couldn't win the last one game.

Actually, most of the posts on this board make the exact opposite argument.

adelman isnt a clear upgrade. He is a good coach, just like jvg if one is 'better' than the other its marginal.

that being said, you have to pick a coach to coach what players you have. Given the current players...i seriously doubt adelman could do any better

Who said anything about the high post? All I'm saying is that when you post up, and a defender is putting his ENTIRE body weight on you via his forearm, you turn and face to create space and get the defender off balance. Yao had an incredibly tough time backing them intot he post via his standard moves, so he needed to counter. Plus, any post player can fiind cutters from more angles while facing the basket.

Adleman was a good coach! Adleman is 60years of Age now!
The Rockets need fresh thinking not more of the same--- because if we don't get some major roster changes and a coach with new thinking and energy then we can only expect much of the same with a slight different emphasis on offence.

We suffered through the Steve Francis ISO years and then the Gundy half court game. We need to adapt to the changing league. Speed it up with Adelman

Van Gundy had plenty of input on the players the Rockets acquired over the years. Rafer for James. Battier for Rudy Gay/Swift. Wesley for Jim Jackson/Boki. Sura/Ward signing. All the ex-knicks they've signed over the years..Oakley, Jackson, Rod Strickland.

Exactly, JVG was a huge part of the problem...

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out Jeff......

Oh, and Achilleus, what was on TV when Pat Riley won his last championship before the Miami Heat one last year?

Or do you want to post more irrelevant stuff like your last comment.....
