We haven't made it out of the first round in the last decade. And next year is going to be year four of the M&M experiment. No way would I trade Yao or Tmac, but the fans are right to panic.
Even if we win game 7 this year... the SAME problems remain. Can they actually build a viable supporting cast around these two? Is it a salary constriction? Is management that inept to put its faith in veteran retreads and unproven europeans/rookies? Its sort of like the Texans and their never-improving o-line... except Yao and T-mac haven't been as bad as David Carr because of it.
rick adleman lost to 3 of the best dynasties of all time... the badboys, the bulls, and the shaq/kobe lakers. by the way, he should've beat the lakers if the refs called it right (walker half court shot after the buzzer). not to mention horry's 3...also adleman never had a 1/2 punch like we have. the kings played a team offense and the blazers had drexler. i would love if we could get the following coaching staff: HC - adleman AHC - dwane casey (had the wolves playing top 5 D last year) AC - pete carill (this is the guy that runs the princeton offense with adleman) AC - mario ellie (a little hear and mental toughness would do our guys good)
The whole "TMac and Yao makes too much money" thing is an excuse. Nash, Stoudamire, and Marion make a ton of money, too, yet the Suns manage to pick up talent like Diaw, Barbosa, Kurt Thomas, etc. They are also likely getting ATL's pick this year. Dirk, Terry, and Dampier also eat up plenty of cap room, but Cuban manages to add to his talent base... The Rockets are still mediocre at best with their talent evaluation... made good choices with Yao, McGrady Battier... the rest of the rosters are halfway decent at best.
You need a smart GM who's willing to be able to identify other bad team's talented players who they have no use for... and steal them away (like Phoenix did to Atlanta). Instead, we focus all our resources on signing a european to a guaranteed deal who may or may not have been NBA ready, and signing a disgruntled/sulking head-case. The million dollar question is... WHO is the GM?
you think Yao facing up shooting jumpers from high post can hit better than already pathetic 44%? last time I checked, all dominant centers in the history have been low post beasts. if yao can't dominate the low post, then he can't be dominant. playing high post shooting face up jumpers can't make him a better player than Rik Smits/Divac which is worse than he is now.
To paraphrase James Carville, it's the roster, stupid! If the Rockets could have got Mike James they would have beaten the Jazz. Simple as that. I don't want another version of Van Gundy if a change is to be made and I don't want a retread like Adelman. I want a coach that is hungry and prepared to take over. I like Ivaroni. If Les really wants to roll the dice he should back up the Brinks truck to Billy Donovan. That would be intriguing. I couldn't bare to have the Rockets go with Del Harris, or Paul Silas. Gag.
PHIL JACKSONHis contract with the Lakers expires and is expecting an extension but it's up to him. Buss isn't fussed about Jackson as a coach because he still prefer the old golden days of L.A, fast break offense.
When you change coaches dont you want a coach that emphisizes your weakness. In other words our weakness is ou offinsive scheme and thats Adalmen's strenght I say smartest move you can make caparing what you can select from.
He can come in, make a disgruntled superstar stay longer than need be, trick you into thinking you're a contender and then just give up when it gets hard. he'd be perfect for us. Brown is a clown, if we get him I'll frown, and we'll get powned.
dont forget in game 6 of the 02 wcf, there was no foul called on the lakers for bibby's bloody nose. i think sac could of clinched. they should of won game 4 and had they hit their freet hrows and peja wasnt hurt, they of won... also in 03 they could of done more had cwebb not gone down i am for adelman
Adelman in line for Rockets job Monday, May 14, 2007 4:42 pm EDT Getty Images All that remains is how the Houston Rockets and Jeff Van Gundy will word his departure. It will almost certainly be a "mutual decision" that he will not return. By doing so, Van Gundy will pocket a fat fee. The name heard most often as Van Gundy's replacement is ex-Sacramento and Portland coach Rick Adelman, though Paul Silas' name is believed to be on owner Leslie Alexander's short list, as well. this actually wouldn't be bad yao is a pretty good passer and maybe we can get bibby out of this or maybe artest and a francis combo would be pretty good maybe even bonzi will get a little burn and do right by us
Not like it took Carlisle long to get acclimated with Indiana... He definitely is not the same coach as JVG, though.
i don't post nearly as much as i used to, largely because of the precipitous dropoff in quality analysis. that said, this is one of the best posts i've read in a long while. keep it up Amigo.
Why can't we just keep JVG as an assistant coach (assuming he consents to this) purely for defensive purposes, and hire an offensive coach like Adelman. Since Adelman is one who is prone to run his players to the ground, I'm sure that on the two ends of the court having two coaches who are specilists on either defence or offense is better than one coach biased towards one side of the court.
