Not picking on you, so this may be pretty close to a rethorical question: When was the last time a star/superstar free agent signed with the Rockets while in their prime years? I have been a Rockets fan for 25 years and I can't remember one. Barkley, Pippen, and even Clyde were way post their prime. History is not on our side.
And Barkley and Clyde were received in trades. Our biggest free agent signings were Maurice Taylor, Stromile Swift and Trevor Ariza.
It's a different situation when you have more than the MLE, like in the past. However, the Rockets would still need to drop more salary, if they want to sign a star.
this would be a PERFECT time for someone to start a thread "Please Morey DO IT!Cash in on T-Mac." and then discuss he trade rumors of iggy butler, jamison so put us in luxury cap hell while increasing wins slightly. 2 options for Les:1. luxury cap hell, lose millions, win 50-55 games 2. save millions, keep our core, maintain flexibility, win 41-47 games obviously fans want option 1, owners will pick option 2(except for cuban, lakers,NY)
i totally s*** my pants when i read this. LETS CONVINCE MICHAEL JORDAN TO COME BACK AND PLAY!!!!! ahhh, God, I can't even run this as a joke. this is too stupid.
Hell, even Jerry Buss has now turned away from adding talent at the high cost of taking on more salary and tax. The Lakers could probably have Kirk Hinrich right now in exchange for their expiring contracts. Lakers management knows that Hinrich would be a great fit in the triangle and would be a clear upgrade over Derek Fisher, who is in an apparent decline. But Dr. Buss is afraid to take on Hinrich's salary on top of his already humongous team payroll. In this current economic climate, I actually don't see ANY owner willing to take on significant additional salary that would push it well over the luxury tax threshold, with the possibly exception of the Knicks management's willingness to take on more 2009-10 salary in order to dump Jeffries or Curry.
But if we just let him expire we get all that cap room. $23 million is a lot of cap room, and it is a big expiring contract. DD
You know, sometimes sarcasm can have disastrous consequences. (Seriously, why??????????? You're killin' me, here, DD!)
If you read what I said correctly, it is 100% correct. Correct - just did not say how much...lol. Correct - 23 million i sa lot of cap room......and a big expiring contract. DD
Really? Iguadala would be a nice fit... however, if we dont trade him and just "sit"on him then why on earth wouldnt we freaking play him!!?? i know the guy can still score! maybe he has lost a step but i would rather have T-Mac jacking up three's than Ariza! cmon it is just absolutely horrible how the rockets have handle this. Morey is a genius but he and adelman really really *****ED up on this one...

disagree completely. Les has proven he is not a cheap owner. He has done that over multiple years of always providing the funds to invest in talent when it makes sense. You don't see many owners who spend like Les does while trusting in his basketball people to make the basketball decisions. if there's no deal that arises that makes sense long term, and Morey advises him to break up Tracy's huge expiring into smaller pieces via trade, that says zero about Les and says a lot about the market for Tracy. This team as constructed is not a championship contender and if being fiscally responsible helps them construct a roster that is, then I'm all for that. calling Les cheap is patently irresponsible, regardless of what happens.
If memory serves, they won't get all of the $23 million but I agree with you on this one. If they take on another bad contract just to get rid of MeMac, it'll be CD as GM all over again. Who knows, maybe I'll start watching them again...
