I don't really remember but when the Rockets play overtime, usually it's Mutombo who does the tipoff. I think you have a good point with the overtime tipoff, the beginning of the game i really don't care who wins it though.
I don't buy that at all. Let's see some actual statistics on that. 5 minutes is a long time in an NBA game.
OK, guys... I just sent a FLAMING email to the NBA on how TIPOFFS should be. Since throwing it UP is not working for YAO, we will have to sign a petition to have the TIPOFF: 1. go SIDE WAYS, toss it from one side of half court to the other 2. roll it along the line of the halfcourt and having both centers fight for it 3. bounce a quarter off a Cheerleader's buttock. The one closest to the buttock gets the ball. 4. shine a REF's bald head. The shiniest gets the ball. 5. team with most All-Star years in team gets the ball. 6. Rock Paper Scissors 7. refs do the Burger King process ("i am thinkining of a number between one and ten...") Finally: 6. Pissing contest!
He mus be. I remember last year Yao offered the bartender a $5 tip for a Miller at Red Lion Pub. Last week at Yao's Restaurent he ordered a Yuengling and gave a $100 bill to the waiter and said "Keep the change".
I don't think this is a waste of a thread at all. I'm an out of towner and haven't noticed the fact that Yao has been pretty bad during tip off's. If he is bad then this is something needs to be improved. I don't think the idea of this thread was to bash Yao. It's just show a point in his game where we think needs to be improved. This isn't a I hate Yao thread or Trade Yao thread. It's just something a poster here noticed about Yao's game that he feels needs to be improved to better our team play. So stop bashing the thread. A tip off could be important (I'm not saying it is the most important) but if there is a way that Yao could improve on this aspect of his game. It would be great.
Good idea actually, but instead of letting the ref do it, you can have a machine drop it down automatically. It eliminates the HUMAN factor and makes it absolutely fair to both parties. Nearly all refs are short people, they don't have the strength to throw the ball high and in straight LINE at the same time.
How is it embarrasing? Height doesn't guarantee these things. Indiana didn't let 7-4 Rik Smits tip-off, instead using PF Dale Davis. Also, who JVG chooses for tip-off is only dependent on who's the best starting player at the job. If Yao doesn't do it, who do you suggest? Howard? T-Mac? Even if Yao only wins 5% of openning tips, if he's the best jump-ball guy we have in the starting lineups, then he should be jumping for the ball.
1. Yao is a slow jumper. 2. He doesn't jump high 3. He doesn't try to steal the tip like every center he faces. 4. Refs blatantly throw the ball too low, and clearly towards the other player. Maybe it's because Yao crowds the halfcourt line, but this is a consistent issue. Yao must reach up and away to tip it, while the other guy has it thrown right above his head.
You don't know where he got his stats? So where did you get your stat that said Yao lost 4 out of 5 tip-offs? Did u just pull the number out of your azz?
Thomas. When I registered, KT was the board's favorite trade bait. Ironically, after we got EG, I was ok with trading Kenny away. Just goes to show how quickly things can change around here.
