Is this a full on case of vegetarianism? Or are fish still allowed? Most people like to half ass it like that...fish are stupid and nobody likes them. Maybe some started liking them after Finding Nemo. Although maybe not, it wasn't like it had real fish...but maybe the kids still grew to like fish and think of them as pets. Actually though I'm sure by the time they're making decisions about whether to be a vegetarian or not they'd know that fish are stupid.
I would go nuts if my wife didn't cook meat for me. Dude, you need to sit her down and talk about the future
Becoming a vegan is the first and the last step to becoming a p***y. Cut out pork if you want to maintain good health. Pigs eat their own feces for god sakes.
Les Alexander was married to a vegetarian at one time. I’m pretty sure his ex-wife converted him. I became a vegetarian 16 years ago. My wife was 100% against the idea, but once she made it through the first few months she actually started to enjoy being a vegetarian. It’s not as bad as most people make it out to be. With all the steroids and chemicals that are in meat today, it is definitely healthier for you.
Ok, these are the replies that I guess are relevant to what I'm talking about. The thing is, I don't really mind the food that much. She made some "vegetarian" lasagna that was pretty good. I'm not a picky eater at all, I just like meat. What was your main reason for becoming a vegetarian? Health reasons or animal rights?
LOL Miguel with the Simps' references... ha... Dude. Did you meet her a VEGETARIAN or a meat-eater? I am wondering what would happen if all of a sudden you have some sort of "change" about what you do that she won't like. For example, you and she were both carnivores upon your meeting each other, and now she's changed and you're supposed to be OK with it? How fair would it be that all of a sudden--Gosh forbid--you become a non-basketball fan or... worse, a Spurs' fan or some *****. How would SHE feel about that? Not a pretty picture now, is it, madam? Also, I thought she was your fianceé? Anyway, I was away from this here BBS yesterday and today and missed a lot of good stuff, and I guess I am off to read the Feminist thread to see what BEWLSCHIET they come up with. I am a MEAT-EATER. I wouldn't give a darn if my wife went Veggie, but I would sure as HELL would friggin' DEVOUR [nom nom] all my steaks and CHICKEN and PORK right in front of her. I can see how you're devastated. I just don't know how to help you change her to see the true light of... oh, damn, there's that Popeye's commercial again... never mind... damn, I'm hungry for some meat now. I feel for you, fellow Rockets' brother. I feel. I would say that if you both go to a restaurant and she can order a salad and you a HUGE steak and you don't feel bad, well, go ahead and finish your Steak but just don't talk about the difference or tell her how well it tastes, and she shouldn't tell you to change if you don't want to. I guess it should be a change only if YOU want to. Um, do you know her personally or something? Moes don't give a darn how skinny or fat or tall or short she is. How is that a positive? FYI - I prefer them fatter (well-fed) than skinny (malnourished fashion model b*tches).
Yo D, here is the deal I've been vegetarian my entire life, of course my body doesnt really show it but was raised that way both for religious and cultural reasons. I can tell you this, there is nothing wrong with you eating meat there really isnt. obviously my own philosophy is to not eat any meat but I have no objection with people who do. When it boils down to it we are animals as well on this planet. If you look at nature there are many animals out there that just eat meat or live off of primarily a meat diet. Its just the way that our bodies were made. Granted us humans are more envolved in that sense that we are able to survive without having to eat other animals but that doesnt make us wrong for wanting to eat them. It seems that you've gone to decent strides to cut out a lot of red meat already in your diet I am not sure what else FB would want you to do. But that along is pretty significant. as for FB I would tell her this: I am happy that she decided to become a vegetarian for her own personal and moral beliefs. For someone to have not been a vegetarian and to have become one is a much harder sacrifice to do when compared to someone like me who was raised in a vegetarian household. For me I "dont know what I am missing" but for her she does and yet she is still giving it up. At the same time while you are able to live your life now with a clear conscience its not fair for you to place your own standards of morals of beliefs on others. You can suggest to him the virtues of giving up meat but you really shouldn't take it too far. Its not fair to him. He has already given up a lot of red meat as it is. I am sure you wouldnt want someone to continuously press their views, whether its political, love fest for the jazz or mavs, or even spiritual on you continuously so I wouldnt to it on him. You love the guy, he is a good guy and he loves you back take solace in that a lot of people in this world dont even have that and you do. I learnt long ago that trying to place my own views on having a vegetarian diet on my friends or loved ones that did eat meat only put them further away from me and ultimately I cared more about who they are, not what they ate. D, I doubt you do this or any of the crew does but at the same time no one should treat her different or constantly ask her about her new chosen lifestyle. none of my friends do once they know that I am vegetarian and they usually will try to stay away from places they know I dont like going to because of its super limited vegetarian options (like brazilian bbq) or like a fish market (i cant stand the smell of fish)
I don't like the "meat industry" I think it is needlessly cruel. But I like meat more than I dislike the meat industry. Honestly if one believes in the Christian God the Bible says the beasts of the field are here for our use (I think)...and from an evolutionary perspective we have incisors which are only useful for cutting meat not grinding veggies. I think the key is mutual respect. If you don't feel guilt about eating animals don't start just because she does. You wouldn't want her to eat meat just because it conveniences you if she were against it..so the reverse should be true. But yeah...learn to cook...its always good to be able to cook for yourself.
Thanks for the insight man, I was hoping to hear from you on this. I appreciate your perspective. Just to be clear, its not even like she's said anything to me or made me feel guilty about eating meat, its just purely how I feel about it. Its more of an indirect thing. I just felt a little put off by the whole thing because she kind of was hesitant to tell me about it, thinking I would be pissed or something. Sucks about the fish smell thing, I hope you find a girl who doesn't keep it funky down there.
Honestly, when you take a lot of the factory farming practices, it's easy to understand why some people become vegetarians instantly. It's pretty gnarly. I do my best to make sure that most of the meat I consume is raised humanely, though it's not always easy (and frankly, a lot of people can't afford it). Personally, I think eating should be about pleasure. One of the things that separates humans from animals is our ability to really appreciate the food that we eat as more than just sustenance. I do enjoy food more when I know that it's been raised (and slaughtered) humanely, though I don't imagine I'd get as much pleasure out of eating if I cut meat out of my diet. Eating meat is choice, not eating meat is a choice. As long as you respect her decision, she will (or at least should) respect yours.
I don't think I can add much more than has been said. I eat meat, and I don't forsee that ever changing. I've cut out red meat for a while, and I still don't eat it a ton...for health reasons pretty much. My stomach also just doesn't digest it as easily, so it's good for me to have it less often. I've never really worried about where it comes from. I know it comes from animals, and I realize they're killed (and I've read about how). But it's gonna happen regardless. And maybe it's not paying attention to the bigger things, but for me.. I'm choosing to eat a product...it's on the middlemen to improve their practices of raising/killing/etc. I guess we can improve that by buying organic or whatever..but I've read about how that can actually be more destructive to the environment overall when you look at all the effects (you give cows for example more room to graze and they tear up a lot more land.. just 1 of many things). The vegetarian lifestyle is cool if you can do it and enjoy it. But I like meat. So I see no reason to completely give it up (unless someone can show me a study that says how meat is as bad for your health as...cigarettes or something). Cause shoot, a lot of us drink even though that's not exactly a positive on your body..
There are some good vegetarian foods... Morningstar Vegetarian corn dogs are awesome Quorn Chicken Nuggets (veg) are great as well (the morningstar nuggets are not good) Hummus is good. Whole Foods has good hummus Vegetarian meatballs are really good as well EDIT: and Moringstar bacon is really good. It tastes different than bacon but it's good and I prefer it to real bacon (and it isn't greasy) I still eat a lot of meat, but eat a lot of vegetarian food as well for health reasons I don't consider a cow or a chicken "cute". They are stupid animals put on this earth for us to consume. I can understand people having issues with veal or pork, but I don't care about a cow (except veal...though I eat it occasionally...mmm...Veal Vincent). You have to shoot those *****ing things if they get stuck in the mud...
I think that it is wrong to torture and kill animals. At a certain point in my life I decided that it was just not necessary to eat meat. I think that a lot of people feel that way, but are either too afraid to try something different or not willing to makes a sacrifice. Our society has a certain way of covering up what we eat. We don’t eat cows; we eat steak. We don’t eat pig; we eat pork. The same people that would cringe if they saw their dog get hit by a car, don’t seem to mind eating ground beef. Most people eat what their parents eat and don’t really think about what they put in their mouth. If they really thought about what they are eating there would be more vegetarians.
We don't live with the GROUND MEAT before it's ground. We don't name our meats and then eat them. WTF is that crap about bringing up pets and comparing them to food? "Cringe"?
I know what you're saying, and I think my fiancee sees it this way too. A lot of people (I guess me included) want to just continue looking the other way, and that is really what has conflicted me on the issue. I want to keep eating meat, but now I feel kind of like I'm being a sheep who blindly does what the other sheep do, even if I know what is really going on. Animal population has to be controlled in some way, but the capitalist tendencies of America have certainly made a lot of animals pay the price. That being said, I'm not of the opinion that animals really care if they are being treated poorly or not (science says most of their behavior is based on natural instinct alone). But I also think that they shouldn't be ripped to shreds while still alive just to save a few of those almighty $$$. Sadly, as others have stated... what can one person really do about it. The animals are already killed by the time it gets to you in the grocery store (unless you happen to be deep in the Latin American part of town) I can see cutting out red meat from my diet, but I don't see whats wrong with eating a turkey, as their meat is pretty lean and they are big dumb birds anyway.
