Dude, There is absolutely NOTHING, i repeat, NOTHING wrong with enjoying the experience that is devouring a sweet innocent animal. Take this guy for example... how can anyone mistake the sheer JOY of it all? Be It Meat Or Fish theSAGE
I know the feeling, man. I dated a girl recently who was a vegetarian, but claimed to lack all of the moral superiority that you're scared of. That didn't make me feel any less dirty eating meat in front of her. I could feel her eyes giving me a bad double-take. Needless to say, we're no longer seeing each other.
There are very few things we as humans get to enjoy. Eating makes up such a huge part of that short life, so why not enjoy the hell out of it while we can. I mean seriously life with out good food would suck. You shouldn't feel guilty though because if you don't eat it someone else will. The same animals are going to die whether you or your girl eat meat or not.
This thread and the feminist thread have got me thinking on how painful it would be to date a feminist vegan.
Its totally more acceptable for her though, her sister has been a veg for like a year now, and her dad has been one before and is again too. So its easier for her to do it. I grew up with a step-dad who hunted ****ing caribous and moose and elk and **** up in Montana. It was pretty much like "God put these animals on earth for us to kill the **** out of with high powered-weapons and devour their flesh because thems' good eaten!" Now, it doesn't effect our relationship at all, I just don't know why I feel so conflicted about it. BTW yes I've already used all the arguments y'all have presented... "I will eat twice as much animals now, why do you eat plants? You are EATING THE REMAINS OF SOME CABBAGE'S MOTHER" believe me, I've tried. She's convinced man.
When I saw '[Please help!] My girlfriend' in the last post preview on the main forums page, I assumed this was a pregnancy scare. Then I entered and saw this was something much worse. Much worse.
Almost all row crop farming in the united states (corn, soybeans, milo, wheat, etc) kills millions of animals in the harvest process. You wouldn't believe how many rabbits, snakes, field mice, armadillos, racoons, opossums, etc are chewed up and spit out by modern farm machines. So next time she's chowing down on the tofu burger on a wheat bun, remind her of the holocaust of animals that happened to bring her such a vegetarian meal.
Dude, there are many positives with being a veg, I'm not even debating that. Hell I've cut out a lot of red meat from my diet and I've felt better / lost weight. I think for health reasons its a good thing, if you can do it... go for it. The results speak for themselves. My problem is now that she's "enlightened" me about what happens to all those damn cute little animals where they basically get shoved into a huge can opener, Its like my eyes have been opened and I'm starting to feel guilt about eating them. This thread is a positive reinforcement to remind me I'm not a bad dude.
I'm trying to remember what thread it was where she mentioned she was heading in this direction. Somebody may have even predicted this thread would happen. Anyways, I really don't know what to tell you as I somehow have managed to avoid any close relationships with a vegetarian say for a vegan girl I met on a trip to Australia when I was in high school. All I know is that it's possible to eat meat from animals that weren't mistreated.....much....but it costs quit a bit more. Even certain phrases like free range are misleading so you gotta do some research. Frankly, I just don't think about it, I mean other predators certainly aren't thinking about their prey's feelings when they are slashing their bellies open and eating their intestines.
Dump her and find a meat eater...especially if she's going to lecture you all the time about it. That's going to get real old fast. You are already complaining about it here. Put down the steak knife...and back away, man.
She not giving me any lectures man, and I'm not like "not cool" with it, I'm just wondering what the collective opinion of the BBS is on the subject really.
