    OK, no problem.

heyp - we have hung out so obviously you don't think that I am an idiot, but I do not believe your enthusiastic cheerleading. It makes me suspicious from anyone but especially because I know that you think of yourself as smarter than most/average.

    moes,

get a puppy then you won't think about your crisis because taking care of a puppy will make you to forget everything. you're gonna be concerned about it's well being. in return, you get a loyal friend for life until it dies. :)

well, maybe that's for me but you get the point.

^^^^^^ DID I EAT A "HYPOCRITE" BURGER?!?!?!? DAMN YOU!!!

;) Oh, man, I was going to say something stupid (when don't I?) and mention something about "your wife's burgers" but I erased it. :p

Seriously, my wife also tried the whole "hey, why don't we try being vegetarians" CRAP to me... I left without saying a word and then came home with a DOUBLE-MEAT Whataburger we shared with love... and devoured... and that settled the deal. Oh, man, that burger was great.

"Little MoBalls... STOP! I already told you not to tease your mom!
 Do it again! Do it again!"

Is it that protein-based TOFU stuff? YUCK.

To all those of you who are vegetarian or vegan or whatever the eff it's called... why can't you all eat veggie all the time, and then every now and then just ONE BURGER? What's wrong with that? It's really NOT that bad, why not just do it ONCE every blue moon? Afraid you'll like it again?

Havent read any of the latest responses

If the facts about meat revealed discomfort in eating it, maybe there simply is some truth to it. And the facts themselves were more influential than the person who presented them? Sometimes its tough to "stomach" inconvenient truths like that. I need to change my diet badly and probably NEED some gross-out and stories of animal mistreatment to get me motivated..

I lived with my uncle for a couple years who was a vegetarian. I was young and didnt cook. Thankfully he was cool most the time in cooking stuff for my lazy ass...I just went with it. Wasnt too bad, got accustomed to the tofu burger patties. His kids ate meat, he didnt inject his vegetarian choice onto others. If it can work out with 2 assholey guys, a loving couple can arrive at something workable.

I have a very serious and honest question and please don't get the wrong idea from me.. I love dogs.. I love cats.. etc

I just don't understand why some people are so hurt when they see a dog mistreated and there was so much attention on something like the Michael Vick trial but at the same time they think it is okay to treat a pig or cow like that..

I am disgusted by the michael vick stuff but I am also as disgusted when something like this happens to any animal...

    I just don't understand why dogs/cats>>cows/etc

    thanks in advance

This might be opening up a can of worms, but it's late and I can't sleep, so I thought I'd pose this question:

In my case personally, I try to eat organic/free range proteins, farm fresh eggs, organic produce, etc. I am concerned with the welfare of the animals that I end up eating, and whether or not they are raised and slaughtered humanely. It's something that I make a conscious effort to keep track of.

That said, I looked at my closet and I got to thinking. I have more than a few pairs of Nikes sitting in there, a pair of running shoes, some basketball sneakers, cleats. They, along with no doubt more items in my wardrobe than I'd like to be aware of, were probably made in sweatshops. I have some vegan and vegetarian friends who love dark chocolate, in most cases made from cacao beans that were harvested by forced labor.

Is it hypocritical for us, therefore, to ignore the fact that our clothes were made by southeast asian kids, PEOPLE, working in inhumane conditions, yet protest when chickens and cows and pigs are raised in a manner we deem inhumane? Is it, in a sense, anti-human of us?

I don't have an answer to these questions, but I thought it might spark some interesting discussion.

I know what you mean. Deciding to become a vegetarian has led me to a plethora of information about...basically every other product on the market. It's a bit overwhelming, but I've been trying to take steps to try and buy ethical products. The only popular shoe brands that I'm 90% positive (based on internet research) don't utilize sweatshops are New Balance and Saucony.

As far as the chocolate goes, that's tough. All the major brands like Hershey's, Mars, Ben and Jerry's, Cadbury, Godiva, Nestle, See's and Toblerone have said that some of their chocolate is from Cote D'Ivoire and uses cocoa beans produced by slavery. Companies express outrage, but come on - they are driven by profit, and Cote D'Ivoire is the largest supplier of the beans. I haven't yet looked into buying slave-free chocolate (I'm doing my best to cut down on chocolate to begin with, lol). I know most of the vegan chocolate brands are very conscientious as to where their chocolate comes from.

Becoming more aware really compels a person to look even further into how goods/produce reach the grocery shelves. Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that one is only concerned for the well-being of animals. But widespread vegetarianism would have far-reaching effects I think for the well-being of the people on this planet and for the planet itself.

Sorry for bumping this thread. There's really good discussion going on though. I didn't want to start a new thread though...
