Big Bang Theory Burn Notice Modern Family Two and a Half Men ( See what i did here) How I Met Your Mother
Definitely will consider contuining with Fringe (I still have the blu-ray discs from netflix at my place) Heard good things about In Treatment (on my psychiatry rotation right now so could be relevant) and The Big C. Lots of good stuff to work with on here guys, it seems like we can just turn this into a thread for anyone looking for a great show. I'll reemphasize that for those of you who haven't seen the shows I listed, please watch them, they are fantastic.
I'm completely addicted to Californication. I actually ended up going through all 4 seasons in a little over a week, and I can't get enough of it. I actually go back and re-watch episodes just to relive some of the moments.
Do yourself a favor and pick The Wire. I've seen the first season of Justified and it was just OK. Doesn't come close to comparing to The Wire. Also, death to anyone who suggest Big Bang Theory. I can't stand that show and I'm shocked that so many people like it. As for other recommendations: 1. The Wire (MUST see.) 2. Sopranos 3. The Shield Those are the best tv dramas that I've watched.. and I'm not ashamed to admit, I watch a lot of tv. As far as comedies go: 1. Community 2. Parks and Recreation 3. Modern Family Those are the three best comedies that are still on TV right now.. can't go wrong with any of them.
I actually bought 2 copies of this (not sure how I ended up with 2 instead of 1) for about $10 each a while back and still haven't watched it. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot. Pugs
Forgot to mention that I've seen Firefly as well, fantastic show. Watched the first season of Modern Family, has its moments for sure, but at times just felt like a mediocre Arrested Development, other times it was just plain unfunny. Seems like my plan is: 1. finish Fringe and Californication 3. The Wire 4. The Shield (heard a ton of great things about this show) Again, thank you guys so much, Clutchfans never ceases to amaze me. Happy TV watching!
Wow, I only saw one mention of "The Sopranos" in this thread. The Mrs. and I got in late on that show and watched full seasons in a day when we finally started watching. Seriously, OP...thread shouldn't exist if you haven't even watched Tony and the gang yet.
The Wire Mad Men Boardwalk Empire The Office Breaking Bad Flight of the Conchords Curb Your Enthusiasm Six Feet Under Deadwood Parks & Recreation Rubicon Walking Dead Twin Peaks
Agreed, I do not regret watching it, one of my favorite shows of all time. In terms of the Sopranos, I don't know what it is about me, but for some reason the Sopranos does not appeal to me (I know I will get an insane amount of flak for this). I just think I'm kind of averse to the mob/mafia tv and films for some reason. I've never found it that interesting/glorified it (not to say you have), I honestly just can't explain it. I consider myself an avid film watcher but was completely unfazed by The Godfather. Not sure what is different with me in that regard, but maybe someday i'll give the Sopranos a whirl.
It's probably not what you think. The machismo is there but they don't really glorify the "lifestyle" all too much. It's more about Tony's struggles within himself...the Mob aspect is almost a secondary plot. Very much a compelling story, give it a chance...I can't recommend it highly enough (I adored Lost too, FWIW)
This is an underrated show. Kevin Smith and someone from SVU helped with this show. Granted, it's not on the same level as Breaking Bad, Dexter, Lost, Spartacus, etc., but it's still fun to watch.
No I feel the same way. I tried to get into The Sopranos a few times but I could never get past the 5th or so episode. I know I didn't give a complete shake but the mafioso theme just never appealed to me. I also consider myself an avid TV/Film watcher. I never cared for Scarface, Goodfellas, Carlitos Way, etc. I do enjoy watching Boardwalk Empire, although that's more about bootlegging and corruption.
That's so odd to me -- I loved all the shows you hated and absolutely loathed Boardwalk Empire. I thought it was slow, boring, and entirely too much dialogue. I guess there's a market for everyone! OP: I forgot about a few that others mentioned. Walking Dead had a great first season.. although a pretty crappy finale IMO. Deadwood was good, but I think it was canceled before it had a true ending, so I remember just feeling like it was incomplete. I'll have to check out Breaking Bad -- I watched the Shield off a recommendation from CF and loved it. Right now I'm in the middle of going through the seasons of 24. It's entertaining, just a bit redundant.. how many times can the same person be kidnapped and/or threatened in 24 hours? I'm trying to push through..
Also I'm surprised that hardly anybody is recommending "Mad Men" considering it won an Emmy for Best TV Drama the previous 3 years (I think Boardwalk won this year). It really is one of the best shows on, sometimes it feels like I'm watching a great cinematic drama play out episodically.
"Deadwood" just mentioned: Seemed like the characters in that show were swearing just to swear...like they got income bonuses for every F-bomb above and beyond 3 in a sentence. Watched one episode and couldn't stop laughing. Maybe it was the weed? Maybe should have given it more of a chance? Just not a good "Western" IMHO. Added: Is "Mad Men" really that good? I always pegged it for a "30 Rock" type show: one that wins awards every single year but one I probably didn't care to watch. Nothing about the premise ever stood out for me. Maybe worth a look after all.
