exactly....thats why I said sign him to a 10 day contract(can we still do those at this point in the year?) See if he is serious about tryin to make a comeback...if he isnt..we drop him...no harm no foul. << to those above who are thinking we are crazy for even giving this 'problem child' a shot...read the above part carefully >> re: roster spot the way I see it...Pike gets limited minutes...and has been by and large ineffective....Boki gets limited minutes....and varies in his effectiveness....we can afford to put either one of these guys on IR for 10 days to see if Baker can help us or not. It is basically a 50-50 shot whether or not BAker is wiorth it...and what do we lose by giving it a shot? What do we get if he is worth it? for a team that is looking for a effective PF on both ends...a serious, sober Vin Baker could be a godsend....and if he isnt serious or sober....we drop him like a hot potato and lose nothing.
Vin baker belongs under my "rox have no energy" thread under the following categories: old overweight can't jump Say again why the Rox should pick him up?
Technically the main reason the Celtics fired him was because of his bloated contract, not his lack of ability. What if we could fire Cato strait up today and get all of his salary back? It would be extremely tempting...
Like was apparently the case with Griffin, it might be a little too early for Baker to be thinking about getting into basketball again. He needs to get his alcohol addiction under control before taking that weakness on to the road again. I think he needs to use this season to dry up and then he can think about finding a team in the offseason.
You are absolutley correct JV... but it is hard not to kinda wish we could get a new and improved Baker when you see how badly we get hurt by our PF by committee. Mo has made marked improvement in his D and rebounding this year...but he is still not the answer. Cato has made marked improvement in defense and rebounding and hustle...but zero improvemnt on O. Spoon is decent as a backup...but his O is a little inconsistent and he does not seem to have the speed and size to get it done on D all the time. Im not advocating going after Baker irregardless....but just dreaming a little about what if he could shake his problems and come back to being the guy he once was. but inthe end...its a moot point. i doubt seriously we go after him...and Baker would be wise to make sure he has his problems whipped before attempting another comeback and failing.
I think one of the main reasons that Celtics dont' want him is because of Baker's ridiculous contract. Ainge is all about rebuilding the team, he doesn't care about this year. Baker is certainly not in his plan. So when he finds a chance to cut him from the team, Baker's gone. Baker has been playing great basketball the first half of the season. He was in shape too. People just don't get in shape and lose a lot of weight by chance, certainly not an achoholic. So I am pretty confident that he is pretty serious about trying to make a comeback and deserve a second chance. I know most of you see troubles in Baker, but I see potential. Because Baker has been tested, and if he can turn around and give the right answer to his test, he is going to be so much more stronger and determined as a person. Talking about being tested, I think STeve is also being tested now, let's hope he can turn around and be the great player that he is capable of being.
