As many of you are aware, the pandemic has caused extreme financial hardships for many local families due to the inability to work or job losses. Food banks have never needed assistance as much as they do right now due to the tremendous uptick in needy families. I just went onto the Houston Food Bank website to donate and noticed Chevron has agreed to triple all donation amounts given through 12/31, which is huge. Please donate what you can...I realize that some on this board are struggling for the same reasons and cannot, but those of you who have the ability, please consider a donation...even if it is for the tax write-off alone!

Donate where you can, what you can, when you can. Central Texas Food Bank is one for our Austin residents, or find your local one.

And it's Winter, and the Holidays, so blankets and clothes and toys and such are also awesome

Agreed. We had a bunch of unopened toys that my kids got for birthday parties that that they never got around to opening sitting in a box in the garage and just dropped all of them off as well. Tough times out there.

I thought what they need more of at the moment are volunteers rather than donations? I saw a segment on one of the Houston news stations in which whomever runs the HFB mentioned that there's been a scarcity of volunteers due to the pandemic(as one might expect).

Thanks for posting Blake. Also, I know you mentioned the tax write off, but want to clarify that there is a special provision this year because of the CARES act that let's you deduct up to $300 in charitable contributions beyond your standard deduction. Even if you use the standard deduction you can stack another $300 on top of it.

Food donations are my biggest charity this year. I don’t know why but the thought of families going to bed hungry bothers me to no end.

I know the adage of teaching a man to fish but ...

Hey donate to the food bank, or you local church food group but also realize that if you are voting for conservatives that you are problems depriving the hungry of at least 10 x's as much food that they could receive with more dignity from the Food Stamp ok SNAP Program as all of your satisfying donations and work on the food lines.

Sad that you can't even keep politics out of a great thing here. Pathetic

Sad you are more interested in feeling noble than feeding the hungry.

Whatever makes you feel better. I'm not going to derail a positive thread with your political garbage. You can have the last word. You aren't worth anymore of my time
