Becuase they paid for the ducket, and they have fun doing it believing it has an effect on the game.

No Kidding!!! Stop It because it freaks him out and he shoots 50/50 or worse!!!

Also stop chanting 'Utah Sucks!' cause it just pisses them off and makes them play harder.

Don't kill the messenger. I'm telling you as a FACT. In my estimation, TMac is probably shooting close to 20% when people are chanting MVP. In my recollection, the crowd has probably chanted MVP during freethrows about 10-12 times this season. ...and he has made exactly 3. He made one about a month ago and he made 2 last week. Other than that, he's missed every one.

So yes, TMac is a crappy freethrow shooter ...but he is even crappier when chanting.

Not making excuses ...simply pointing out a FACT. Love it or hate it.

I mean if we are up by 12, go ahead and chant. If it is one point. STFU and let the man shoot.

Yup you are right my guy. I thought I was the only one who noticed it. Chanting "MVP" while hes shooting FT goes to his head, and it puts more pressure on him to make it. He wants to impress his fans, so he gets him more nervous insdie while his shooting. It's prabably a little surprising for him too, because the "MVP" chant for Tmac only comes up every so often.

I agree with BigSherv, if its a close game don't chant "MVP". But if we are up by a comfty lead, make him feel good by chanting.

I've been saying that since the Dallas game on Feb. 15. The Red Rowdies try to quiet the crowd when we're shooting free throws, but fans will do what they please.

    I am not a whiner . . . but . . .

Case in point, I had read someone posted something similar before. I was at game 1. TMac got fouled & was shooting 2. Crowd was chanting for the 1st FT.

    He missed.

I stood up & started shooshing people around me. Holding my arms up, making the "quiet down" motion for the 2nd FT. The place was notably quieter.

    He made it.

I think we need to be quiet for FTs. PERIOD, for all players.

Normally..... and maybe even now.... I agree with the sentiment that it is not smart to chant anything while your team is shooting free throws.

Honestly...in this case I don't know. TMAC seems to thrive on some amount of hubris and egotism, and if it would help anyone, I would think it might help him... though I dont' dispute the numbers you post, and I was also one of those people shooshing his section when it all kept happening.

So... I feel strongly about both sides of the argument... is what I am saying.

While it makes sense to be quieter for free throws, dead silence is probably a bad idea....it would freak me the heck out, thought I guess I wouldn't know.

No, like I said, college fans chant nothing. It's silent. If you're going to tell me that chants of any kind (actually noise in general) doesn't distract a FT shooter, you're wrong. But like I said, every great player has to deal with this.

T-Mac's struggle at the foul line may have a lot to do with the fact that he doesn't put much arc into his shot. Plus, T-Mac jumps so high when he shoots jumpshots. FT's must be really different for him because you can't jump at all. OK, I admit I'm just rambling with random excuses.

I understand but I bet Utah or Golden State fans would have made it there on time, if not early. I am fortunate cause I work Downtown but my gf came all the way from Sugar Land, left at 6 PM and still got there 20 minutes early. No excuses. Be there!

Wow, I guess you didn't watch many reg season games...without T-Mac this team doesn't make the playoffs, especially with Yao's injury...People who really know the game, like Hubbie Brown, believe he is right up there after Nash, Nowitzki and Phonie.

I went to Lamar, and when we had anyone at the line we'd start with "ellllllllllll..." when the shooter started his motion, and hold it until the ball went in (if it did), then yell "you!" This was every freethrow.

Why not? He deserves to be recognized as the mvp, he doesn't miss because of that.

the MVP chants make mcgrady miss i think...

why not send a message the whole team instead?

    i'd starting chanting something like: champion-SHIP! champion-SHIP!

not the norm, but it would tell our team what we want at a time they'd HAVE to listen.

NO WAY!!! you know hoe much pressure that puts on the person with the ball?!!! They might put up a really bad shot! but aside from that most of the time pros know the time. its very rare that you see a player confused or lost in terms of shot clock!

    A little off topic but....

If Dallas fans can chant MVP when Dirk is on the line, we have every right to chant MVP for anyone on our roster, including Big Jake.
