I ran into an error code when trying to play (offline - because I am old) NCAA Basketball 2010. I looked it up on the net and here is what I found.

    PlayStation Network Dies

A system wide crash of the PlayStation Network is affecting online play for PS3 owners, access to the PlayStation Store and even some problems with offline games. What do you want for free?

Over the past 24 hours there have been various problems with the PlayStation Network, Sony Corp’s network for online gaming and access to digital download software.

This has presented problems for people playing online games and access to the store as well as issues with games that support dynamic trophies, such as Heavy Rain.

More problematic will be online only games such as MAG (Massive Action Game) or those trying to get hold of the new God of War III demo

At this point Sony themselves are still not sure what the problem is, the following tweets having appeared on the official Twitter page.

"We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates."

    Followed by:

"PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them."

    And then:

"PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that "slim" units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally."

Yep, discovered this after I rebooted my network and spent 15 minutes troubleshooting my PS3 after I tried to use it to watch some Netflix. Thanks, Sony.

Do you have the slim or fat PS3 ?

Apparently there isn't a problem for the slim PS3 ?

apparently if you disconnect the battery and then reconnect after a few minutes it might fix it. You have to open the system up though so might not be worth it.

Looks like its a Y2K-esque problem with the time. Apparently trophies and saved game data might be corrupted as well.
