How does the On-Line compare to the 360 ON-Line. From everything I read it states the 360s on-line is far superior. Now I saw the PS3 HOME video and that looked pretty cool. Does the PS3 have any games that compare to the awesome exclusives that Microsoft puts out.

The picture is absolutely fabulous. I had a big party last weekend and people said it was the clearest picture they have ever seen. I have my HDMI's running through my new Denon 3808ci receiver and I just allow pass through and allow the tv to complete the up conversion. Now I will say the analog channels look horrible on this TV because it will show all imperfections. I do not have any HD or Blu Ray so I can't imagine what it will look like once I have that.
So you are happy with Sony and would not rather have the 360

depends on the games you play. the online experience is better on the 360, if you poll people who have both systems, they will tell you that. however, if you like the sony exclusives games, then you should get the ps3.

After a couple of exchanges, I'm happy...I've invested so much in the product so no 360 for me...But I will agree the online gaming is sooo much better on the 360...

That's a great receiver...My past one was a Denon...I'm picking up the Onkyo tx-sr705 this weekend and that up converts SD channels......Basically future proofing my set-up (hdmi 1.3 and Dolby TrueHD, THX etc....) Not to derail, but can you tell the difference with the 120 hz refresh rate? What kind of stand did you get? Do you have a power conditioner?

I believe GT5 is coming out next year and not this year for the PS3. I would also wait for VF5 for 360, since that version is going to be online.

I agree that it's my personal preference to choose Gears and Bioshock over anything on the PS3, but the overall reviews for both of those games are also better than anything on the PS3. But once again, I agree that it's personal preference.

Personally, I think the PS3 will be getting some good games next year. MGS4 is sure to be an awesome game, and I'm hoping for the best from Killzone 2. Killzone 1 wasn't the greatest game, but it's hard not to get excited for Killzone 2 after seeing it's stunning graphics!

As mentioned, XBL does offer a lot more than the PSN, at least in terms of functionality (based on what I know anyway). On the PS3, you do get the basic sort of functionality you would expect (list of friends and what they're playing, list of people recently played, messages and voice/video chat, etc.), but the 360 offers those things (and more) in a more seamless fashion (EX: you can send invites to friends or read a message while playing a game, something you can't do with the PS3...at least until they make the XMB available in-game). You also get achievements and a gamerscore with XBL, along with other similar things.

So far, there is WAY more content available on XBL for download compared to the PSN (at least in comparing their US content anyway). You have the movie and TV show offerings on XBL, something Sony has been promising for years but has yet to actually offer on the PS3 or PSP. Most of the time, demos of games on both platforms will debut on the 360 MUCH sooner than the PS3 (if they even show up on the PS3 at all). An example of this is the new NBA 2K8 demo, which has been available on the 360 for more than a day now I believe, and yet PS3 owners won't get to try it until next week (and this is actually a more favorable situation for the PS3 compared to other demo releases). Sony has been MUCH better about offering demos (and other content) in recent weeks, so this isn't as big of a deal as it used to be. XBLA has a lot more games, especially old school games, available for download, although the PSN does have a lot of new, original games that are pretty interesting (flOw, Calling All Cars, Super Stardust HD, soon-to-be-released Everyday Shooter, etc); I think they're priced about the same (not counting bigger online distributed games like Warhawk or Tekken 5: DR Online), although most PS3 games are sharable with up to 5 different accounts (Warhawk is the only notable exception I can think of at the moment).

Some of the pluses for the PSN are a result of its open architecture. For example, Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3 will allow you to download any user-created mods created on the PC and use them in the PS3 version (possibly requiring a PC to download them, but Epic is working on getting the PS3 to do it directly). They're trying this with the 360 as well, but some of Microsoft's policies with XBL are making it difficult to offer to players (partly why it was delayed on the 360). Some games like Burnout Paradise also offer a more seamless transition from offline to online gameplay IIRC, and it seems to be easier to setup dedicated servers on the PSN (most of the major online PS3 titles use dedicated servers, allowing for a more lag-free experience).

Things like Home might close the gap (Home alone will probably negate the advantages regarding achievements, gamer cards, community features, and matchmaking/lobbies), but those will all take time (Home was delayed until Spring 2008, and it will probably require some tinkering beyond that after launching). Even if MS didn't offer anything new, it would take some time for Sony to match/surpass MS when it comes to offering the best online experience (especially if price is not a factor).

As for games, as mentioned a bit earlier, there are only a few games on the PS3 right now that are all that great, the rest being mostly mediocre at best (expected after only 11 months on the market of course). I personally think that something like Resistance or Heavenly Sword is as great as Gears of War or Bioshock, but opinions differ (at the very least, they're not that far apart in quality though). This will undoubtedly change in the future though, which could be as soon as 6-9 months from now. Games like MGS4, Final Fantasy, God of war, Tekken 6, etc., will all be released on PS3 in the next year or 2 (hopefully), along with plenty of other new IPs that should be interesting (LittleBigPlanet, White Knight Story, Afrika, Heavy Rain, possibly Rockstars new game, etc.). Depends on personal preference, but I would think that the PS3 could easily offer the same amount of great games, if not more.

GT5 is next year, GT5P is this year for sure (at least in Japan).

Given that the average scores are close enough between the 4, I'm not sure comparing them should really mean much, especially since some reviewers changed their standards for reviews (and review score) from last year to this year (think 1UP/EGM and Gamespot did for sure, maybe a few others). And actually, I'm starting to ignore pretty much all scores at this point, especially if a game is somewhere around 80+ or so. I used to be big on these things, but I'm getting tired of different reviewers, different review standards, or even situations where the reviewer didn't even bother to finish the game (looking at you, Resistance reviewers). Yeah, apparently it isn't even a requirement to finish a game (or even get halfway) in order to review a game (this really hurt reviews for Resistance). If I just looked at review scores, I would think MLB 07 was mediocre, or that PD0 was actually good (certainly better than Heavenly Sword).

As a PS3 owner thats the single aspect that scares the hell out of me. PSX and PS2 were so successful because of the 3rd party support. Now it seems like Sony is using PSN almost solely for 1st party software. IMO Sony has the worst in house games of the 3 major consoles. Add to the fact that so many companies are b****ing and moaning about developing on the PS3 platform...

Tables have completely turned. XBL gets first shot at all multi-platform 3rd party demos. Its getting old. I didn't get a NCAA demo anywhere close to release, instead of 2K8 we are getting NBA 08 (ya right), things better change. Hopefully when companies stop developing on the 360 then porting them to Sony we might actually get something first.

Sure, I'll tell you everything I know.

The tentative name of the game is Afrika. It is being developed by Rhino Studios.

That's about all Sony has said about the game, even when directly asked about it. Based on the last trailer, I'm assuming it will probably be a Pokemon Snap type game, maybe with a little more freedom. Somewhat disappointing if you were expecting more (would have been awesome if it was like Lion), although I guess there could be a market out there for this kind of thing. Or at least, Sony better hope so since it seems like they might be doing something similar with another game called Aqua:

I think part of it is that the people who are in charge of releasing content on the PS Store are not very good, and/or they've been busy working out some issues post-launch. I've seen some 3rd party studios send demos to Sony at around the same time they send demos to Microsoft, and yet there may be a month or so difference as to when each will offer the demo to users (this happens to internal studios as well...Sony's been sitting on a Ratchet & Clank demo for about a month now IIRC).

SCEA doesn't seem to like updating the PS Store throughout the week (like XBL...or even like SCEJ), so that might also play a part in some demos being delayed. For example, if for some reason the NBA 2K8 demo for the PS3 was ready to go at the same time that the 360 demo was ready (or even earlier), it still wouldn't have been been available until today. Or if the 2K8 demo was ready today or tomorrow (possibly even yesterday), it probably wouldn't be offered until next Thursday. I think they also hate putting up PS1 games for download too, but that's another story.

Then, as you said, there is the factor about the 360 being the lead SKU for most 3rd party games. I'm guessing that it is a lot easier to get a demo ready for the 360 version of a game if that version is already further along (if the PS3 version is 2 weeks behind, they may have to wait 2 weeks before the demo would be ready). This might change things a bit, although I'm guessing that developers would prefer to release demos for both platforms at about the same time (difficult to do if SCEA keeps updating only on Thursdays though). Not counting some exceptions like Dynasty Warriors Gundam of course (think this was on the PSN long before XBL...if it ever got a demo on XBL that is).

I don't particularly care that much about this as long as the demo releases are somewhat close (gap between NBA 2K8 releases seems OK to me), and, even more importantly, the demos are released prior to the full versions are released. It definitely wouldn't be on top of my list compared to other potential disadvantages of not having the best 3rd party support.

And FWIW, I think Sony has the best collection of internal studios of the 3 (quite a gap between them and MS too IMO), especially with their recent acquisitions of Evolution Studios and Bigbig. Kind of difficult to see now since the vast majority of their studios have yet to release a PS3 game (or even have a PS3 game attributed to them yet...looking at you, Team Ico), but they can pump out a lot of quality titles that are popular in every region. Of course, they're bigger than Nintendo and Microsoft's studios put together IIRC, so maybe that shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Well I chose the PS3 because of the Blu Ray Player. I also got 7 free movies.
Not a bad deal. Can't wait to see how this looks on my TV.
    Also I picked up Madden08

My stupid piece of crap PS3 stopped working. I only got it a month ago and watch BD or DVD's on it. Freakin thing will turn on, but only a black screen shows up. Yes I have tried different wires and that is not the problem. I feel like making a youtube video which includes: me, baseball bat, ps3 (i think the ps stands for piece of ****).

I've had mine since March and have had it running nonstop since (I run folding when not using it). The only things that have been a problem for me have been a PSN connect issue when 1.92 was released and a Bluetooth issue that had nothing to do with the PS3. A month old malfunctioning system, sounds returnable to me.
