I would go with the PS2. More games... better games.

Final Fantasy X is probably the best video game I have ever played.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is very high up there.

We have all the sports games, AND the NCAA Football series which is the best sports game on the market. XBox and Cube don't have it.

The only XBOX game that is worth buying it for is Halo.

Cube sucks ass. Smash Melee is bad, the new Zelda is a joke, and they will botch Starfox I bet too.

I hear EA Sports is not coming out with a college football game for the XBOX this year. That's my absolute favorite game-- heck, that's 75 percent of why I have a console at all-- so I went with the PS2.

It is pretty fun, sometimes slow. Make sure you hook up to someone who has a connection as fast as you.

How long did it take you?

I haven't played the game in probably 2-3 months. Been too busy playing NBA 2K2, NHL 2002, and 007 Agent Under Fire. I really only get to play 5-10 hours a week at the most. :(

Nomar: Melee is bad? Bad?!?! For saying something like that you should be treated to the worst kind of shame, like getting your a$$ kicked in the game by Jigglypuff. :D

Besides that, though, I have to agree with the rest. X-BOX has the potential to be at the top...if only I could find a game other than HALO that is even remotely interesting. Imagine if HALO hadn't been ready at launch time. Pretty ugly picture.

PS2 definitely has a great library. Tons and tons of games, with some already-classics like the FF series and Metal Gear Solid, or Devil May Cry.

'Cube also looks good so far. Melee is getting excellent reviews, and for a good reason: it takes everything about the original and makes it better. With stuff like Zelda (of which there is no reason to believe the series is suddenly going to have bad gameplay), Starfox, Metroid, WWF Wrestlemania X8 and the Resident Evil stuff (along with Square's new deal with Nintendo), there will be plenty of stuff to play. Nintendo just makes good games.

Basically its a matter of what you want, and when.

I've set up my hub and played Halo online...yada yada yada. Believe it or not...Halo does get old after a while. In fact, I have not played that game in months.

Maybe I'll pick it up again some time in the future...but for now it's on my "collect dust" shelf.

Rokkit- I am not a big fan of the Smash Bros series. Let me break down the two games.

Original Smash: The gameplay is essentially as follows. 1; Find a cheap move that works. 2: Learn how to time it correctly. 3: Repeat, over and over again, rapidly mashing the same button combos. ARG. Irritating as ****.

New Smash: Way, way, way, way, way to fast. You don't even know whats going on sometimes. Too busy. It looks pretty though... There are also major "What the **** was that ?!?!?!?" problems. Like being hit by home run swings when you are behind the guy. And Link's spinny move is far, far, far, too powerful. I once played a game as Link, which consisted of me smashing people off the edge, then just mashing the spin move. Impossible to get back against an edge guarding Link.

Zelda: Have you seen screenshots for the new Zelda??? I was never a Nintendo guy myself, but the new style is sad. Way to ruin a good game Nintendo.

So I guess you bought a Sega Saturn instead of a Playstation? Were you happy with that purchase? Or maybe you were an Atari Lynx guy.

System specs are overrated. It's all about the games, baby.

Besides, if you want the most powerful gaming system, nothing will ever come close to a souped up PC with a good graphics accelerator.

PS2 seems to be the best choice at the moment. It has the best games.

XBox doesn't interest me at all. All of the best First Person Shooters are on PC anyway, and isn't it better playing a FPS with a mouse?

GameCube is a wildcard. It doesn't really appeal to me at the moment, but if they come out with a good Metroid game, I will be intrigued. I hear Metroid is going the FPS route, though, which will be bad for the series IMO. Will have to just wait and see, I guess.

I have a PS/2, which I bought because my girlfriend really likes to play an old PSOne game not avalable on X-Box. I spend about a month trying the two of them out and researching, and lemmie tell you what I knew then I still know now:

X-Box is 10x the platform that PS/2 is. There are 2 things going for the PS/2.

#1. If your a software pirate [insert obligatory DaDakoda rant about the evil of software piracy] it's alot easier to pirate PS/2 games, and...

#2. There are a whole bunch of games, specifically the Metal Gear/Final Fantasy type of games that I used to always feel were cheesy when they used to be ported to PC's that are avalable for the PS/2. Despite all the hype of games being avalable for the PS/2, I found that for games that I like the difference isn't that great. By this, I mean that you get the obligatory football & basketball games for both, and after that there are a couple of worthwhile action games for each and a couple of first person shooters for each, but unless you spend several thousand dollars a year on games the differences are inconsequental.

Oh, um... also, the d@mn Blockbuster and Hollywood video down the street from me always has the PS/2 games rented but never the XBox games.

But I already have a decent PC. For me, my console is mostly for playing sports games with friends. I like some other stuff... but most games for the PC are better, anyway.

And I did buy a PS instead of a Saturn. I guess because I never had any faith in Sega. I suppose the game library does matter... but I can't imagine Microsoft utterly flopping, there... not with all that money, they have ;).

Nomar: Well, if you weren't a big fan of the first one its understandable you wouldn't be down with the new one. I was just kiddin' with you - honestly, out of everyone I've talked to (and that includes every review I've read), no one has disliked Melee.

It sounds like either you haven't played it much, or the people you play against suck. :D There is a ton of strategy in Smash, and the increase in the items dropped only multiplied that in Melee.

A friend of mine bought the first one and one night a bunch of us were there and played. That did it. From then on, we played the hell out of that game. Like five or six of us, sometimes a new person here and there, racked up serious hours on that from then on.

That only continued with Melee. Only, I bought it this time. Heh.

The cheap move thing never works, particularly when you are playing with a good group of players. The move doesn't do much when someone drops a bomb on your head. One of the guys that plays makes a living out of butting in on a fight to tag someone when they least expect it. Which makes it annoying as hell, which only makes you want to play more to beat his ass. I guess the speed thing doesn't matter much if you've grown used to it in the first one; I noticed it was faster at first, but haven't noticed it since then.

As far as Zelda goes...well, to be honest, Link has always been a character where animation didn't do much for me. I mean, he's a little elf guy. Looks like the makers are going with the cell-shading craze, but all I care about is a good game. And both Zelda N64 games were excellent, excellent games. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I play.

I have owned my XBox for the last 4-5 months and as you can see, i was one of those people that started the thread. So far, I LOVE IT! Its fun as hell and cant stop playin it. Halo is addicting as hell. I played hardcore when i first got it but have slowed down because if I start playing it, I wont stop for another 3-4 hours. NFL 2K2 is just great. I loved the series on Dreamcast and didnt miss a beat on XBox. NBA Inside Drive is a great game if you want an arcade like game but if its a simulation game u want, pick up NBA 2K2. WWF Raw is an OK game. I only have fun with it when I play with friends/cousins, I never really did not like wrestling games. Tony Hawk 3 is as addicting as Halo and pretty easy to pick up.

I would suggest this, if you want games NOW, go with the PS2. Hell, i wouldnt mine getting one now with games like Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4 and others. Plus, i would wait a little for PS2 cuz its been almost 2 years and they are bound to have a price drop.

But if you can wait for some great games to come, then go with the XBox. If you want to check out a list of games on whats coming out soon, i suggest checking out Videogames.com.

    Hope any of this helps.

    Dave

If you want to copy burned audio CDs burn on CD-RW. I gurantee that it will work. Heard bout it on some website and it worked. I used CompUSA 700MB/80Min CD-RWs and they worked fine.

Forgot to metion the ripping music to the hard drive feature. It kicks ass. I love it when I am playing Tony Hawk 3, I can skate while listening to the music stored on the Hard Drive. One cool thing they should have done with WWF Raw Create a wrestler mode was to add a feature where with their entrance theme you can use music off of your hard drive. Now, that would be AWESOME.:D

I usually follow a basic rule when buying computers OS, game platforms, and cars. I like to buy something that is tried and true. If you look at the Dreamcast...how many people blew their money on that one? Then there's the Fiero in cars (it's just the one that sticks out in my mind) Didn't get Windows 95 until after at least a year after it came out. Same w/ Win 98. I went w/ the PS2. I enjoy it very much. I'm a little hooked on GT3 and I've won the Super Bowl with Da' Boys on Gameday '02. Star Wars Starfighter is cool, and Jedi Startfighter looks awesome. I bought an N64 years ago just for the Star Wars titles(Rogue Squadron still kicks ass) , and then got the Perfect Dark game. I wanted the "Game cube" for the Rogue Leader title, but I stuck w/ the PS2 because of all the PS1 games my step son already has.

I'm sure the Xbox is an awesome platform, and I seriously wanted to buy it, but my fundage doesn't allow for it.
