We'll be watching the Seattle/Toronto wild card series closely. Let's chat about it here along with the other playoff series. Preference on playing Seattle or Toronto? I just know I don't want to see meaningful playoff Springer dingers hit against the Astros.

If the Astros win the ALDS, every possible opponent the rest of the way will be a playoff rematch from 1 or multiple seasons.

Toronto has the pitching and bats to be a bad matchup to give the stros some problems. I don’t have the same concern with Seattle. They’re just happy to end the postseason drought. They won’t be in the playoffs for long. I hope the series goes til Sunday though

    Houston Rotation
    1. Verlander 1.75 ERA 28 games started
    2. Javier 2.54 ERA 25 games started
    3. Valdez 2.89 ERA 30 games started
    4. Garcia 3.72 ERA 28 games started
    5. Urquidy 3.94 ERA 29 games started
    McCullers/Brown

    Toronto Rotation
    1. Manoah 2.24 ERA 31 games stared
    2. Stripling 3.01 ERA 24 games started
    3. Gausman 3.35 ERA 31 games started
    4. Berrios 5.23 ERA 32 games started
    5. Kikuchi 5.27 ERA 20 games started

    Seattle Rotaion
    1. Castillo 3.17 ERA 11 games started
    2. Gilbert 3.20 ERA 32 games started
    3. Kirby 3.39 ERA 25 games started
    4. Ray 3.71 ERA 32 games started
    5. Flexin 3.73 ERA 22 games started

I'd prefer Toronto after using their top 3 in the WC game because of their lack of rotation depth and being on short rest after the WC series.

4 games in 1 day. The first game has always started early.

Why can't MLB have 2 games on at same time like other normal sports?

I agree with you but this is how they do it.

And they use $$$ as the reason for assigning better TV windows so the Yankees and Mets will always play in the evenings and the Astros always get shafted with day games.

It could be Aatros @Mariners in Seattle on at 2pm eastern. 11am pacific.

But Yankees@ Tampa will be 7pm eastern time.

MLB doesn't care about timezones and fans. Just $$$

It really is crazy how badly mlb screws over smaller market fan bases.
After 162 games your team makes the postseason and plays games when kids are at school and most of the city is at work.

I don't know what kind of algorithm they run, but the Dodgers having significantly better odds than all 8 wild card teams combined is a little ridiculous.

It's just a bias toward run differential. Garbage in - Garbage out.

Compare run differential with the extremely complex algorithm they use.
    BYE
    LAD +334 29.2%
    NYY +240 13.1%
    HOU +219 23.6%
    ATL +180 14.2%

    WC
    NYM +166 4.6%
    STL +135 2.3%
    TOR +96 2.9%
    SEA +67 2.6%
    CLE +64 1.9%
    PHI +62 1.3%
    TBR +52 2.8%
    SDP +45 1.5%

Adjusted by match-ups. Those with Byes have a probability advantage over those playing the Wild Card round which is why those 4 have a significantly higher probability of winning the WS.

I think the Braves take them out in the NLCS and as a life long Astros fan, that honestly scares me.

Much like we own the Yankees, the Braves just seem to have our number no matter what decade we are in.

I kept thinking last year how we owed them and it would wash away all that happened in the 90’s. Yeah, that didn’t go so well.

I'm very interested to see how this new wild card round plays out. 5 off days is a lot in baseball.

Surprised they don't play 2 today, given they could move around the schedule if a Play-In game was required.
