Props to Van Gundy for having the balls to play a guy who averaged like 2 minutes per game this season. Don't think Rudy T would have made that call, and probably would've used Padgett.

Man, ced, you are amazing; you definitely know your stuff.

I haven't been able to catch many games this year because I'm not in Houston anymore, but from my limited viewing of them I thought Bowen was pretty sucky and noneffective. He definitely played a big role today, and you called it. I was surprised. So again, nice job.

He's actually just observant. Good call, though, ced! I've been telling my buddies that Bowen might see a lot more time because of his hectic and flailing defensive style that really seems to bug whoever he is guarding. Let's just hope that game 2 is a carbon copy of the first.

I think our defense was excellent today, but Dirk had an off shooting night as well, don't discount that.

Still, my main argument was that Dirk was a very tough mismatch because of his size (not realy because of his talent).

Now, if I am wrong and Bowen can keep up this kind of defense on Dirk to at least make him shoot a bad percentage or something, I will MORE than gladly eat crow. In fact, as I said before, I will be asking for more;)

Great call ced. I had similar sentiment but I never made the call in public - great call. I figure RB would play heavy minutes but I never suspected he would start. Interesting we will rely heavily on him if we happen to face Phoenix in the next round. But if we make it that far, Padget will likely get the start instead of Ryan.

Talking about starts, it indeed took balls and great game planning for JVG to start Ryan. Very few coaches in the NBA would have done this and I believe Jeff all along knew he had this move as his wild card but he never revealed his hand - props to him. Interestingly, I have not heard enough accolades sent his way by fans and sports commentators for the great coaching job he did in this game.

This win started with JVG. Without the moves he made, Tracy, Ryan and Mike would not have been in the position to excel and I think this sentiment must be echoed over and over again. JVG p3wned Avery.

I see us going 2-0 Monday - Dallas will not know what hit them. I really like the humily our fans have shown so far unlike them Dallas fans.

Nice one ced. A caller on Palillo's show (I was, um, evaluating the competition...honestly) said the same thing. Palillo laughed him off the phone but he was dead on, as were you. When they showed the graphic about which Rock was guarding Dirk and what Diggler's shooting percentage was it said: Bowen - 4 for 9, T-Mac - 0 for 4, and Deke - 0 for 2. Something liket that. I thought it was deceptive because that would imply that he had a decent shooting game against Bowen. But Spaz Bowen was ALL over Dirk. You can't make a bucket if you are being molested by Spaz Bowen.

Chance, no one's analysis annoyed me more back in c. 1992 than Charlie's...to be fair though his basketball intuition has caught up with his knowledge the last decade...in fact, I think he's probably the best radio guy in the Houston market just from a skills standpoint... I love the words/sentences he uses.

    A few other unrelated comments:
-The voice is learning to work with other people...and I'm liking the chemistry he has with Rich.
-John and Lance also have good chemistry and when they're paired up with others it's not as good.
-Jeremy made a bad career move pulling a Dean Martin and breaking up a good duo. Taking the sports content aside, Jeremy and Matt were very entertaining back in the day.

I've always been a Bowen fan, and it surprised me that it was a surprise that he would start. Half the game is defense and if 1/5 of your team can limit someone who usually is 25-30% of the opponent's offense then that makes sense to me.
